Melvin Merle Ankney, 72, of Napoleon, died Monday at Community Nursing Home, Bowling Green.
Born July 25, 1926, he was the son of Seymour and Frances (Ide) Ankney. On Aug. 14, 1948, he married Eugenia Mae Figgins, and she preceded him in death on March 20, 1982.
Formerly of Liberty Center, he operated Ankney Refuse in Liberty Center from 1961 to 1986. He also worked in shipping and receiving at Wauseon Manufacturing for 20 years retiring in 1980.
He was a member of the Wesleyan Church, Napoleon, and a former member of the Liberty Center Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by three daughters Vickie Carpenter of Angola, Ind., Phyllis Irelan of Liberty Center and Mary Torres of Milton Center; four sons, Mike and Dennis, both of Liberty Center, Ed of Neapolis and Chuck (Bobbie) of Adrian, Mich.; 27 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty VanDyke.
Services will be Thursday at I0:30 a.m. at Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center, Tamara Russell officiating. Interment will be at Youngs Cemetery Liberty Center.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home.
