John Yocom was born on September 14, 1838, in Mifflin County, Lewistown, Pennsylvania, and died on July 31, 1914 in Napoleon, Ohio. On December 9, 1859 he married Suzanna Amanda Hartman who was born on September 5, 1840 in Washington County, Maryland, and died on March 2, 1909 in Henry County, Ohio. Her father was John Hartman and her mother was Anna Mariah Barnes.
John and Suzanna had five children. Mary Ellen was born on June 1, 1861, in Napoleon, and died on June 1, 1861; Margaret Ann, or Annie, was born on June 1, 1861 and married Aaron Shafer; John Samuel was born on April 27, 1863 and died on August 5, 1863; Adam Henry was born on March 29, 1869 and died on December 14, 1954, and married Mary Kremer on May 27, 1894; George Washington was born on March 20, 1876 and died on October 10, 1938, and married Adeline Kremer on February 17, 1895. George and Adam married sisters.
Margaret Ann (Annie) Yocum was born on June 1, 1861 and died on April 12, 1943. She married Aaron Shafer on December 9, 1859. Aaron was born on March 28, 1851 in Trumbull County, Ohio, and died on March 20, 1929. His father was George M. and his mother was Barbara Shafer.
Children of Margaret and Aaron Shafer were Vernon who married Nellie Reiter on December 1, 1904; John married Lena Wolf; William married Adena Hustedt; Katurah (nickname was Turi) died at the age of eleven years in 1920. She liked to go to the barn and get her own milk with her special cup. She dipped the cup in a barrel instead of the milk barrel by mistake and was killed.
