The Willeman family was one of the earliest families settling in Ridgeville Township, Henry County, Ohio, and lived on the Independence, Ridgeville, Adrian Turnpike (now the Ridge Road) south of Ridgeville Corners.
Beck Brothers now own the old Willeman farm. The picture shows the house in its original condition with members of the family of William Sherman and Sophia on the lawn. Martin Willeman is the second boy from the left in the back row. Sophia is the fourth from the right in the line of chairs. Others are not identified.
The letter brought by David Willeman, from Blair County, Pennsylvania, to his new home in Ridgeville, Ohio read: "From the Allegheney Evangelical Lutheran Church in Blair County, Pennsylvania, dated December 25, 1845. This is to certify that David Willeman has been a regular communing member, is in good and regular standing, and at his own request is being dismissed from our church. We cordially recommend him to any Christian Church Congregation with whom it may be his lot to be cast."
Many of the Willeman descendants live in the four county area of Henry County, Defiance County, Williams County, and Fulton County, and are still (members in good standing) in their own churches.
