Bucier N. Wells and Permelia Flowers Wells, of Scottish and Irish descent, emigrated from West Virginia to Champaign County, Ohio. Their children were Noah B., John, Marian Baker, Alice Hare, Phoebie Jane Hare, and all lived in the vicinity of Lena, Ohio.
Noah B. Wells was born January 29, 1852 and died in 1933. He worked for a number of years in the manufacturing of wagons in St. Paris, Ohio, which is now called "Pony Wagon Town".
Noah married Sarah Everingham, born December 5, 1865, and died 1950. Her parents were Charles Everingham and her step-mother, Martha Noe. Sarah had a brother, Harry Everingham, and a half-sister, Nellie Everingham.
The Wells and Everinghams families came to Henry County about 1885. Charles Everingham located on a farm northwest of McClure, Ohio. Harry Everingham lived on a farm north of Napoleon and had six children named Freeman, Chester, Malen, Celia Underwood, Axie Clark, and Allegra. Harry moved back to Champaign County, near Kaiser Lake. Nellie Everingham, born July 21, 1883, married
Jay Willier in June, 1912 and lived in Napoleon and died February 27, 1968.
Noah and Sarah Wells had six children: Omer M., Ethel Permelia, Edith, Burdette Noah, William B., and Charles E.
Omer M. Wells was born on August 6, 1888 and died on November 29, 1974. He attended Ohio State University and tested cattle for butter fat and worked for the Burroughs Adding Machine Company. He served some time with Company F. Militia during the Mexico uprising. He lived on the home farm near Grelton, Ohio.
Ethel Permelia Wells was born on March 21, 1891 and died on June 21, 1976. She married B. Frederick Richard, born July 11, 1889, died September 21, 1973. Ethel graduated from Grelton School and attended Ypsilanti School of Music. She taught piano for seven years in the community. B. Frederick Richard taught chemistry in Indianapolis, Indiana, and owned and operated a drug store in Cincinnati for twenty years. He retired to Na_poleon and worked at the old Gilbert and Herr Drug Store. They had one son, Frederick B. Richard, born September 9, 1916. He served in World War II, worked at the Campbell Soup Company, and is retired on the home farm near Grelton. Frederick married Lucille Barton in 1970.
Edith Wells was born on February 15, 1899 and died in 1969. She married Edward Ballard. Edith attended Grelton School. Edith and Edward had one son, Edward, and one daughter, Virginia. Edward worked for the Cloverleaf Rail Road as a telegraph operator. He served in the army in France during World War I. Edward Ballard, Jr. works for the General Motors Company in Defiance, Ohio, and lives in Ney, Ohio. Edward was born November 25, 1918. He and his wife have three children. Virginia Ballard was born on August 10, 1924, is married to Wilbur S. Luffick, lives in Terra Haute, Indiana, and has six children.
Burdette Noah Wells, born May 23, 1901, married Maud Doris Weaver, born August 22, 1902. They were married on November 22, 1921. They lived on the Grelton farm for twenty three years. Maud is the daughter of James and Nellie Borgart Weaver. They moved to Arcadia in 1925 and lived on the Taylor farm three years in Hancock County, Ohio. Burdette was a member of the Biglick Grange. They moved to Fostoria in 1928 and Burdette worked for Fostoria Steel for twenty nine years, was a member of the First Church of Christ, and a member of the VFW Band for six years and played a trumpet. He moved to Chula Vista, California on March 23, 1957. He worked at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego as a carpenter for eight years, retiring in 1966. Maud died September 21, 1962. Their one son, Wendell Weaver Wells, was born on August 25, 1922, and married Georgia M. Cox Jones and lives in Sandusky, Ohio. Both work for General Motors. Wendell and Georgia have one daughter, Sherry Sue Wells who married Robert Gray. Burdette and Maud had one daughter, Nadene Lois Wells, born March 5, 1932, married Kenneth Leroy Parsell, born November 22, 1932. Both work for the Navy at the Naval Air Station, North Island, San Diego, California, and live in El Cajon, California.
William B. Wells was born on March 23, 1907 and died on October 2, 1972. He served in the Army during World War II in Corsica and Spain. He resided the rest of his life on the home farm at Grelton, Ohio.
Charles E. Wells was born on September 24, 1895 and died on March 16, 1969. He married Lilly Floss Fiser in 1926. She died on June 9, 1967. Charles served in the Army during World War I. He worked a few years in Cincinnati and Chicago. Then he bought a farm one half mile north of Grelton. Charles and Lilly had one daughter, Celia I. who married Robert Gorsuch. They lived in Sylvania, Ohio, before moving to the farm in Grelton. They have three sons, Michael, Barry, Scott, and a daughter, Cathy. Robert died on May 8, 1973. Celia Wells Gorsuch has since sold the farm and moved to Napoleon and is employed at the Napoleon Holiday Inn.
