The Bordner family is descended from Balthaser (Baltser) Bordner, who at the age of thirty-four years, with his wife, Marilles, who was thirty-seven years old, and their children Jacob aged ten years, Hanna aged eight years, and Mela aged seven years, sailed from Rotterdam on the ship "Adventurer" and landed at Philadelphia on September 22, 1732.
Balthaser Bordner settled in Tulpehocken Township, Lancaster County (now Berks County), Pennsylvania, immediately after landing and died there in 1747.
Jacob Bordner, son of Balthaser and Marilles Bordner who was born in 1722. On June 20, 1761, he purchased land from Thomas and Richard Penn in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, near Sudbury. His descendants were William H., Jonathan, Isaac, John, Joseph, Peter George, Molly, Elizabeth, Lucy and Catharine.

Philip Bordner was born on December 25, 1797, at Sunbury, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. He died July 21, 1895. He is buried one mile southwest of Carrothers, Ohio. Philip married Mary Ann Guest, daughter of Pitney Guest, on May 1, 1822. In 1832, he entered land in Crawford County, Ohio, and in 1833 he moved his family to Crawford County. Mary Ann is buried at the Windfall Cemetery.
Philip was the son of Henry Bordner who was born on April 24, 1762. Henry married Suzanne Albert who was born on February 19, 1765. Henry came from Sunbury, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania to Stark County, Ohio when Philip was young.
Philip and Mary Ann Guest Bordner had the following children: Pitney, Jesse, Benjamin, Isaac, Elijah, Philip, Henry, Caroline, Harriet, Charlotte, Anna, and Mathilda.
Philip Bordner was the maternal grandfather of John Philip Cummins.
