John Webster I, son of Matthew and Elizabeth, was born in England about 1.590. He died in Hadley, Massachusetts in April, 1661. Tradition says that John came from Warwick, England to Watertown, Massachusetts about 1636 and brought his family with him. He was one of the first settlers in Hartford, Connecticut, a Deputy Governor and Governor of Connecticut. He married Agnes Smith at Cossington, County Leicester, England on November 7, 1608. Their children were Matthew, William, Robert, Thomas, Ann, Elizabeth and Mary.
William married Mary Reeve. Robert married in 1652 to Susanna Treat, daughter of Governor Treat. Thomas married 1663 Abigail Alexander. Ann married Jon Marsh. Elizabeth married about 1658 to William Markham.
