The Webster name is derived from the occupation of the early members of the family in England who were thought to have been cloth weavers.
John Webster, of Cossington, Leicestershire, England, was the first known ancestor of the family. His will, dated February 1, 1593, lists his children John and Margaret. His wife and son, Matthew, were dead before the will was made. John was buried at Cossington on October 12, 1594.
Matthew Webster's will gives his widow as Elizabeth, and his children, John Ffayth and Avis.
