The Von Damanden name is of Spanish descent. Carl Albert Von Damanden was born in 1847. His wife, Rosa Streicher, was born in 1852. They were married in Indiana in 1873, and came to Henry County, Ohio, in 1874.
Rosa's brother George Streicher came from Germany to Henry County in 1864.
He decided to make a trip to California in 1867 with a company of eighty persons and to go as a teamster on the wagon train.
The wagon train was attacked by three hundred Indians. The party fought them for three days and fifteen of the company were killed and several wounded. The rest were all taken prisoners by the Indians.
George was a prisoner for five days before he could make his escape at night. He never learned the fate of his comrades of the wagon train.
He was a resident of Holgate, Ohio.
