Fred Tietje Family

Heinrich Fredrick Tietje was born in Germany on Nov. 27, 1864. Fred came to America in 1879 with his father William Tietje, his brother Henry and his sister Mary. He was fifteen years old. While a young man he worked on Kelly's Island taking care of grapes.

Later he moved to a farm in Napoleon Twp. Henry Co., Ohio. He was a farmer. Here he married Anna Whittenberg on Feb. 2, 1893. They had one son Arnold, born July 1, 1894. He died a few days after birth. On June 4, 1896 his wife Anna died.

On Dec. 23, 1897 Fred married Elizabeth March Brase. She had an eight year old son, Frederick Henry Brase. Together the three of them moved to a farm in Flatrock Twp. Henry Co., Ohio. On this farm their four children were born: Frieda Anna Marie on June 27, 1899, Emma Elizabeth on Sept. 20, 1901, Carl William Henry Frederick on Jan. 6, 1904, and Luella Emma Katherine on Sept. 19, 1907. Here they lived and farmed for many years. On Dec. 15, 1933 his wife Elizabeth died. Fred continued living on his farm for a good number of years after his wife's death. In his later years he moved to Florida, Ohio to live with his youngest daughter, Luella. Here he lived the rest of his life. He died Dec. 2, 1956 at the age of 92.

His stepson Frederick Brase (18891957) lived on and farmed the home place. He married Clara Weddelman on April 10, 1932. They were the parents of two daughters, Rosella and Dorothy. Rosella died at the age of three years. Dorothy married Albert Smith and they live in Napoleon, Ohio. They have three daughters, Roseann, Deborah and Sandra. Dorothy does office work at Campbells in Napoleon.

Frieda Anna Marie Tietje married Fred Eitzman on June 12, 1921. They moved on a farm one mile from Frieda's home place. They have three sons, Harold, Roger and Marvin. Marvin died one month after birth. Harold married Laura Arps and they live on a farm near Hamler, Ohio. They are the parents of three daughters, Brenda, Beatrice and Bernice. Beatrice died a few days after birth. Roger married Rhonda Lee Emans and they live in Holgate, Ohio. Roger works for Chrysler Corp. in Perrysberg. They have four children: Kathy, Michael, Renae and Randy.

Emma Elizabeth Tietje married Alfred Lantow on Feb. 9, 1930. They live on a farm in Tiffin Twp, Defiance Co., Ohio. They are the parents of three daughters, Ruth, Janet and Elizabeth. Ruth died in infancy. Janet is a teacher and teaches at Sherwood, Ohio. Elizabeth also was a teacher. She taught in the Northeastern District of Defiance Co. Elizabeth died Oct. 12, 1976 at the age of 43.

Carl William Henry Frederick Tietje married Clysta Urban on July 13, 1933. They are the parents of three children, David, Prudence and Kay. They lived in Toledo, Ohio. Carl worked in a factory here. Later the Tietje family moved to Phoenix, Arizona. Here Carl worked for an employment office. Now he and his wife are retired. David married Evelyn Acosta and they have four sons, Richard, Steven, Kelly and Rudolph. Later they were divorced. Now David is married to Elia Silvas and they have three children, Judith, Cynthia and David Jr. They live in Irving, Texas. David does office work in compiling information for directories. Prudence married Rudolph Acosta. They live in Phoenix, Arizona with their four children, Charisse, Carlos, Jenice and Clysta. Kay does office work at the Capital Building in Phoenix, Arizona.

Luella Emma Katherine Tietje married Harvey Rohrs on April 27, 1930. They are the parents of three children, Norman, Melvin and Carol. They lived in Florida, Ohio. Luella died Sept. 12, 1966 at the age of 58. Norman married Velma Baker and they live near Holgate, Ohio. They have four children, John, Patricia, Mark and Darrell. Norman works at the Dresser Corp. in Defiance. Melvin married Ann Baxter. They live in Sherwood, Ohio with their three children, Susan, Steven and Scott. Melvin works at Johns Manville in Defiance. Carol married Lawrence Zartman and they have three sons, Tim, Ronald and Bruce. They live in Sherwood, Ohio. Carol does part time office work in Defiance.
