Alma was born on August 12, 1898, to Mary and Henry Meyer at their Marion Township farm.
When Alma was a little over seven years old, her father died. She and her mother continued to live on the farm southwest of Hamler, Ohio. She was confirmed into the Lutheran faith on March 31, 1912, at Hope Lutheran Church by Pastor Jacob Appel.
She married August Tietje on June 13, 1918. August was the son of Herman and Maria Bremer Tietje. The ceremony was performed in the home of the groom's parents in Richfield Township by Reverend E.W. Paul, pastor of Peace Lutheran Church, Deshler, Ohio. Alma and August started their married life by farming and living on one of the Tietje farms on County Road 6, in Richfield Township.
A son, Harvey, was born on March 29, 1921. He died in Flower Hospital, Toledo, Ohio, on June 27, 1921. Melvin was born on April 12, 1924, and six years later, on March 29, 1930, Renata was born.
The family continued to live on one of the Tietje farms until 1932 when they moved to the Muntz farm near Standley, Ohio, in Defiance County. They bought their present farm in 1937, one of the Herman Tietje farms, and they retired in 1962 but continued living on the farm.
August and Alma were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 16, 1968, by having open house at Peace Lutheran Church.
August passed away on July 14, 1968, after an illness of several years.
Melvin Tietje was married to Madonna Koster, the daughter of Henry and Erna Koster, of Hamler, Ohio, on December 9, 1945, in St. Stephans Lutheran Church, Hamler, Ohio, with Pastor Gerffin officiating. They have four children. Juleen was born on September 24, 1946. Robert was born on January 30, 1949. Jan, a daughter, was born on January 11, 1955, and a third daughter, Jenny, was born on July 7, 1957.
Melvin and Madonna moved to the Meyer farm on State Route 281 on January 30, 1947, and still live there.
Juleen became the bride of Dennis Schwiebert, son of Arnold and Doris Rosebrook. Schwiebert, on September 26, 1965, at Peace Lutheran Church. They have two sons, Kirk, born on November 26, 1969, and Erik, born on July 27, 1972. The family live on a farm southwest of Hamler, Ohio.
Robert M, Bob, graduated from Toledo University, Toledo, Ohio, and now lives in Milford, Michigan. He is a professional civil engineer with the Logan Clay Pipe Institute.
Jan became the bride of Thomas Franz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eldor Franz, of Napoleon, Ohio, on July 12, 1975, at peace Lutheran Church, Deshler, Ohio. Jan graduated from Toledo University and is now a teacher in Burr Road School, in the E.M.R. Department, in Wauseon, Ohio, and lives in Wauseon.
Jenny graduated from Northwest
Technical College, Archbold, Ohio, and is working in the Medical Records Department of Toledo Hospital, Toledo, Ohio.
Renata Tietje married Arnold Tietje, son of J. Henry and Maria Seedorf Tietje, on May 1, 1949, in Peace Lutheran Church, Deshler, Ohio.
Roger Lee was born to this union on February 29, 1952. He graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1970, and has been farming with his father since.
Judy was born on Octpber 17, 1952, and graduated from Patrick Henry High School and International Business College, Fort Wayne, Indiana. After working for several years in Fort Wayne, she attended Indiana Purdue University, Fort Wayne branch. She is now a sophomore at Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, where she is majoring in Physical Education and coaching.
Randall Lynn (Randy) was born on March 10, 1961. He is a junior at Patrick Henry High School and will graduate in 1979.
Arnold and Renata have lived all their married life on a farm just east and a little south of Deshler, Ohio, in Jackson Township, Wood County, Ohio.
