V. Ray Taylor was born in Monroe Township, Malinta, Ohio, on April 27, 1891. He was the son of John Wesley Taylor and Margaret (Maggie) Berno.
John Taylor was born in Perry County, Ohio on October 18, 1863. His parents were James Ross Taylor, born in 1832, and.Catherine Fickel, born 1835 in Perry County. Three children, William, Jane and John W., were born to them in Perry County. In 1864, the family moved to Indiana and lived in the central part of the state, where Benjamin and Oliver were born. In 1878, the family moved to Henry County, where daughter Della was born. James R. Taylor died in Malinta on February 1, 1916, and Catherine Taylor died on December 15, 1893. They are buried at Hoy Cemetery.
Catherine Taylor's parents were William Fickel, an early settler in Perry County, and Mary Frazier. They spent their last years in Richfield Township.
James Taylor's father was Henry Taylor, born in England. His wife, Rebecca, was born in Scotland. They spent their last years on their farm in Carrol County, Ohio.
Margaret (Berno) Taylor, wife of John W., was born December 17, 1865 in Lucas County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Bridget (Clark) Berno and Julius Berno. Bridget was born in Ireland, on February 22, 1832. That same year, her mother, Nancy (Murphy) Clark, brought Bridget and sons James and John to America, where they were met by Martin Clark, who had come to America the previous year and had made a home for his family in Erie, Michigan.
Julius Berno was born in France in 1827. He was the son of Pierre Bonneau. Pierre and his twin brother, Charles, escaped the French Revolution by leaping into the bay and swimming to a ship which brought them to Canada. Pierre settled in Erie, Michigan.
Julius Berno and Bridget Clark were married in Lucas County, Ohio, where they lived several years before moving to Providence in Washington Township, and later, to Texas, Ohio, where Julius tended the locks on the Miami- Erie Canal.
Mr. and Mrs. Berno were the parents of eight sons and four daughters. Julius Berno died at Texas, Ohio on May 22, 1874. He is buried at St. Pat- ricks in Grand Rapids. Bridget and the children moved to Malinta, where she died on March 15, 1911. She is buried at Forest Hill Cemetery in Napoleon. Two of the Berno brothers, William and Hugh, operated a general store in Malinta. After the death of William, Hugh closed the store and became a piano tuner.
Maggie Berno and John W. Taylor were married on December 23, 1888. In 1891, they moved to a farm in Monroe and Richfield Townships where two children, Victor Ray and Maude May were born. In 1933, they moved to Napoleon to live with their son Ray. Maggie died in April, 1935, and John died on July 17, 1947. They are buried in Grelton, Ohio.
Maude May Taylor, born December 15, 1896, was married September 4, 1919 to Julian B. Hefflinger. Julian died in July, 1969. Maude resides in Apache Junction, Arizona. The Hefflinger children are Evelyn, born on August 19, 1920, married to Perry Hastings of Bronson, Michigan, and Franklin Julius, born February 15, 1922, died August 11, 1975, and Lucie, born January 3, 1924.
Victor Ray Taylor was born April 27, 1891 at Malinta, Ohio. He spent his early years on the family farm. Later, he attended Valparaiso College in Indiana. On June 27, 1918, he married Imo Cheney, born December 27, 1895 in Monroe Township. Imo was the daughter of Frederick W. Cheney and Adella Murray.
Mr. and Mrs. Taylor purchased a farm in Harrison Township. Twin daughters were born to them on January 20, 1920, Marjorie N. and Virginia E. In the fall of 1933, the family moved to Napoleon where Mr. Taylor was well known as a carpenter and cabinet maker. In 1946, the Taylors bought property in Largo, Florida and began spending winters in Florida and summers in Napoleon.
Ray died on October 18, 1968, just months after the Taylors had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Taylor continues to maintain her homes in Napoleon and Largo.
Marjorie Taylor was married on August 22, 1942 to Glenn S. Farison, son of Guy F. Farison and Mable (Shuler) Farison of Richfield Township. Glenn has an engineering degree from Ohio State University. The Farisons now reside in Southfield, Michigan. Their children are Craig Taylor, born December 1, 1946 in Toledo, Ohio, Carol Glenn, born September 4, 1948 in Toledo, Ohio, and Kay Ellen, born September 30, 1949 in Logansport, Indiana.
Craig was married on October 26, 1969 to Sharon Reinbolt, who was born on December 25, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan, and is the daughter of Ray and Helen (Thompson) Reinbolt.
Carol was married on March 18, 1972 to William Johnson Jr., who was born on March 7, 1945 in Dayton, Ohio, and is the son of William and Betty Johnson. They have a daughter, Cara Elizabeth, born on August 26, 1976. The Johnsons reside in Kettering, Ohio.
Kay Ellen was married on December 21, 1974 to Harry Dennis Lang, who was born January 23, 1947, son of Harry and Blanche (Strait) Lang of New Bedford, Massachusetts. The Langs reside in Downers Grove, Illinois.
Virginia E. Taylor married Paul L. Jones on April 5, 1941. Paul was born on March 10, 1919, the son of Coy L. and Rae (Sloan) Jones, former residents of Richfield Township. The Paul Jones family resides in Alachua, Florida. Their children are Randall Ray, born January 13, 1946 in Napoleon, Ohio, Tamara Kay, born March 4, 1947 in Napoleon, Ohio, and Lana Sue, born May 11, 1948 in Napoleon, Ohio.
Randall is married to Dorothy (Lott) Jones. They reside in Florida with their three daughters, Bonnie, Wanda and Virginia. Tamara married Ronald Hines on May 18, 1968. Their children are Joli Ann, Jason Randall and Joy Ellen. The Hines family resides in Florida. Lana is married to Donald Fox and they also reside in Florida.
