Franklin Boston Suydam was born on September 18, 1916, in Napoleon, to Clem F. and Laura Ellen Gilson Suydam. Clem was a son of Frank and Ida Chamberlin Suydam and a grandson of Richard West Suydam who was born in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The Gilson family came to Ohio from the Lancaster, Pennsylvania area.
Franklin Suydam is a graduate of Michigan Trade School, Detroit, Michigan and in 1955, became the proprietor of Frank's Alinement Service located next to the Suydam home on South Perry Street in Napoleon, Ohio.
Franklin married Elizabeth Kathryn Huddle in 1938. Elizabeth is the daughter of Orwig E. and Celia Almira Pontious Huddle, of Napoleon. Or- wig's parents, John B. and Catiierine Shumaker Huddle, came to Henry County in the 1860s. Celia's parents, Benjamin and Elizabeth Jane Myers Pontious, came in the 1870's.
Elizabeth Huddle Suydam attended Davis Business College, Toledo, Ohio, and was a bank secretary and teller.
The Suydam family are members of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, and the Henry County Historical Society. Franklin is a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge 4256, The Scottish
Rite Valley of Toledo, and the International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge ,260. Elizabeth belongs to the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Ohio Historical Society, and Chapter 232 Order of the Eastern Star.
Franklin and Elizabeth Huddle Suydam are the parents of three daughters.
Kathryn Sue was born on July 1, 1944, and is a graduate of Ohio State University and Bowling Green University. Kathryn married Allen Lee Rupp on June 21, 1970. Allen is the son of Claude and Helen Wyse Rupp, of Pettisville, Ohio. Allen is a graduate of Ohio State University and is an employee of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. Allen and Kathryn have two children, Ryan Allen and Emily Kathryn Rupp.
Elizabeth Jane Suydam was born on June 28, 1947 and is a graduate of Ohio State Univeristy, and a member of Phi Mu Society. She married Stephen Edward Boger, son of William and Kathleen Boger, of Fairborn, Ohio. Stephen is a graduate of Ohio State University and a member of Acacia fraternity. He is a contract specialist at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio. Stephen and Elizabeth Jane Suydam Boger have two children, Natalie June and Stephen Christopher.
Isabel Marie Suydam was born on March 2, 1949, and is a graduate of Bowling Green State University and Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio. She was an elementary school teacher in Fairborn, Ohio, for six years. On February 16, 1974, Isabel married Thomas Edward Moore, son of Zenas H. and Genevieve Roberts Moore of Bowling Green, Ohio. Thomas is a graduate of Bowling Green State University and the University of Dayton School of Law. He works for the United States Environmental Agency, Washington, D.C.
