Carol J. Sausser Sutkus

Isaac Sausser, who may properly be called the immigrant founder, came from Germany to Pennsylvania in the early 1800's. He settled in Hancock County, Ohio. He and his wife, Elizabeth Hemry, homesteaded eighty acres of land.

To this marriage were born six children. One son, Jesse Franklin, was born in 1840. He married Hannah Snider in 1867 and eight days later they came to Henry County, Ohio, and settled in Monroe Township where they cleared a farm out of forest land on the Turkeyfoot Creek. Jesse and Hannah had three children: Ade, Franklin John and Dora. After the death of Hannah in 1923, being alone, Jesse went to live with his daughter, Dora Litzenburg, near his old home and died there in 1931 at the age of ninety years, eight months and fifteen days.

Franklin, better known as Frank, Sausser was born on May 10, 1874, married Ida Moerder, daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth Friend, of Henry County, and they had six children: Cloe Marie, Jesse Byron, Andrew Wayne, Wilma Fae, Frances Wilmetta, and Truman Franklin.

For many years he farmed one hundred and twenty acres of land across the road from his parents' home and raised his family.

A. Wayne Sausser was born on September 3, 1901 in Monroe Township, Henry County. He married Hazel M. Shumaker, daughter of Harley L. and Mary L. Hefflinger, both pioneer families of Henry County. To this marriage were born Betty Jean and Carol June.

Carol June Sausser was born on September 11, 1930. She grew up on Maumee Avenue in Napoleon just a few doors from her mother's parents, and close to aunts, uncles and cousins. Carol wrote, "I have many treasured memories of my childhood there. For many years my father and his brother, Byron, worked for the Ohio Gas, Light and Coke Company of Napoleon. In 1943, my family moved to Toledo, Ohio."

Carol married Daniel J. Sutkus of Toledo, Ohio. He is a teacher and insurance salesman. To this marriage were born four children: Kim M., Sue A., Sip C., and Jil L. They live in Lake Township, Wood County, Ohio on twelve acres of land that Daniel enjoys working.
