Elizabeth Rettig and J. P. Stauber, Jr.

Elizabeth Rettig, daughter of Michael and Cathryn Pfeifer Rettig, was born September 8, 1843. She married J.P. Stauber, Jr. on April 12, 1860, in Ohio. Elizabeth died March 1, 1922. J.P. was born June 23, 1838, and died October 18, 1923. Both are buried in Carlisle Cemetery in Carlisle, Arkansas. They had ten children: George, Mary Ann, John Adam, Mary Amanda, Ida Gertrude, Edwin Milford, Albert Harrison, Cora Nettie, Mathilda Ellen and Nora Etta.

George Stauber was born in Henry County, Ohio on January 23, 1861 and died November 17, 1944. He married Wilhelmina (Minnie) Moerder on October 31, 1886. They went to Arkansas on February 18, 1886. Minnie was born in Henry County, Ohio on August 23, 1866, and died March 20, 1946. Their children were Ida Mae, who died as an infant; Emma Ardella, Walter Harrison, Birtes Milford, William Jennings, Clarence Leroy, died as an infant, Yeoland, Elizabeth.

Emma Ardella Stauber was born February 23, 1889 and married William Fred Rettig on March 3, 1907. She died November 8, 1976. William was born November 13, 1879, and died January 16, 1963. They had six children that are listed in this book under the Leonard Rettig family. They are George Albert, William Daniel, Florence Marie, Neal Wilson, Leon Edward and Mildred Marguerine.

Walter Stauber was born on September 3, 1891 and married Mary Risley on September 19, 1915. Mary was born in 1895. Their children are: Minnie Stauber, born August 21, 1915, married October 19, 1941 to George Finch, and had Clayton Burl, Robert George and adopted Donna. Emma Stauber was born November 29, 1916 and married Fred Allen, who was born September 20, 1900 and died in 1976. Emma's children were Kathryn Ethel, Iva Jane, Raymond Jesse and Vivian Delores. Harrison Stauber was born September 8, 1918 and married May 4, 1937 to Ruby Toliver and their children are James, Martha, Harrison, Jr.

George Henry Stauber, fourth child of Walter and Mary Stauber, was born on November 28, 1921 and married July 28, 1944 to Ruth Cook. Ruth was born June 10, 1927. Their children are Evelyn Ruth, Jo-Ann, Rose Marie, and George Henry, Jr.

Darlene Marie, born April 28, 1920, died May 12, 1921, was the fifth child of Walter and Mary Stauber.

The sixth child, Marion Stauber was born March 15, 1924 and married Bertha Carpenter on September 23, 1952. Bertha was born June 5, 1934. They had no children.

Calvin Stauber was born June 6, 1926 and married February 9, 1955 to Mary Wenfrey, born December 13, 1929. They adopted two daughters.

Betty Jane Stauber was born February 26, 1929 and married Richard Simmons. They had one child, then were divorced. Betty Jane then married Clarence Pope, born July 18, 1929, and they had Donna Jane and Linda Marie Pope.

The nineth child, Pat Gorden Stauber was born July 22, 1930. He married, has two children and retired from the Navy.

Birtes Milford Stauber, son of George and Minnie Stauber, was born November 12, 1893 and married Callie Williams, born July 30, 1901. They were married on September 12, 1917. They had several children. Edith Stauber was born on July 31, 1919 and married Floyd Doyle, born January 29, 1912. They were married on December 25, 1935. Their children are Floyd Eugene, Lynn, Patricia and Rachael. Milford Stauber was born August 24, 1922 and married July 30, 1944 to Edna Durham, who was born September 4, 1925. They had one child, Craig. Aflord Stauber was born July 23, 1924, married Mayme Neil on April 12, 1944. Mayme was born September 18, 1923. Their one child, Monte, married Charlotte. Dorothy Stauber was born June 19, 1926 and on June 19, 1946 married Paul Pearson. They had two children, Kelly Wayne and Paula Jane.

Kelly Stauber was born April 12, 1931, married Mary Alice Sanders Grooms on June 22, 1959. She was born on May 7, 1931. They had two children, Ruth and Garry. Ruth is married. William Jennings Stauber was born November 21, 1896. He married Mabel James on June 19, 1935. She was born February 12, 1915. Their children are Carolyn and Sharon. Carolyn married Denver Webb and has no children. Sharon married Jerrall Bayette and one child, Julia, was born March, 1977. Clarence Stauber was born April 23, 1399 and died August 20, 1900. Yeoland Stauber was born on July 27, 1902, never married, and lives on father George's home place.

The second child of Elizabeth and J.P. Stauber, Jr. was Mary Ann who was born in Henry County, Ohio on June 18, 1862. She married John Hoffman (of the George Hoffman family in Book 1 of this series) on November 25, 1879. Mary died on September 14, 1895. Their children were: Bertha, Ora, Alta, Mattie, Della. Typhoid fever hit the family mother, Mary Anne, died, then Mattie and Della, and then John died on November 27, 1895. Bertha was seven years old, Ora was three years old and Alta was nine months old. The grandparents, J.P. and Elizabeth Stauber took the remaining children to raise.

Bertha was born January 28, 188 and married Frank Bennett, a farmer in February, 1907. She died October 31, 1968. Frank was born March 25, 1883 and died January 3, 1949. They had Robert, Clifford, and Curtis. Robert was born February 13, 1909, married Bernice Caviness on August 22, 1937. Their children are Robbie Carolyn, Robert Richard, and Charles C. Clifford was born March 30, 1913 and married Lola Mae Perkins December27, 1935. She was bron February 12, 1914. Their children are Annette (Bennett) Rogers and Billy Bennett. Curtis was born December 21, 1916 and married Mary Ellen Davidson on May 9, 1945. She was born April 9, 1913. Lynne Ellen, their daughter, was born January 20, 1947.

Ora Hoffman died as a teenager. He was born August 28, 1892 and died November 3, 1910.

Alta Hoffman was born November 18, 1894 and died November 4, 1918. She married Paul Buffalo on March 11., 1891. He died July 17, 1964. Their children were Ruby Buffalo Lambert, born November 19, 1915 and a baby died at the same time as Alta. She and the baby took pneumonia and died on October 22, 1918. Ruby married C.C. Lambert on February 14, 1938 and had Charlotte Mae, born March 5, 1938, and married June 7, 1958 to Henry Chambers. Charlotte had Steven on March 28, 1964 and Jo Ellen on March 2, 1960.

John Adam Stauber, the third child of Elizabeth and J.P., was born in Henry County, Ohio on May 4, 1866. He moved to Arkansas, and in 1892, he married Nettie Maurer. A son died at four years of age, and their daughter was Delcia Stauber.

Mary Amanda Stauber was born in Henry County, Ohio on March 22, 1868, and died June 19, 1930. She married George Friend, of Holgate, Ohio. Their children were Clarence, Orla, Victor and daughters, Mrs. Charles Evans and Mrs. Francis Schafer. The George Friend history is in Volume I of this history.

Ida Gertrude Stauber was born in Henry County, Ohio on July.13, 1870. She married George Armbruster of Ohio, and had Mary, Bessie, Clara and Nora. Mary Armbruster married William Hill and had George and Raymond Hill. George Hill had three children, Raymond had two. Bessie Armbruster married Fred Cobb and had Larene, Berdell and LaVerne. Clara Armbruster married Forrest Hallum and their children were Vernon and Jay. Nora Armbruster married Alex Hill. They had three sons, Roy, Dewey and Milford.

Edwin Stauber was born in Henry County, Ohio on July 20, 1873. His wife's name was Addie and they had four boys: Clyde, Harvey, Eugene and Emmett.

Albert Harrison Stauber married July 22, 1875 Maggie Maurer and had one son, Arthur, who was a pilot on an airliner for years. He had a son, Sterling Stauber.

Cora Nettie married Fred Marble who was a postmaster at Carlisle, Arkansas for years. She was born February 5, 1879 and died July 10, 1966. The Marble children were Joy who married Everett Graves and lives in Carlisle, .Arkansas. Their son, Charles is married and has two sons. Marcus Marble was a druggist for many years, and is now retired.

Mathilda Ellen Stauber was born in Henry County, Ohio on March 13, 1882, and died on May 9, 1882.

Nora Ettie was born March 19, 1883 and died September 13, 1883.
