Franklin Farison Snyder attended grade school in Holgate, Ohio, and was valedictorian of his graduating class at Libby High School in Toledo, Ohio, in 1928. He attended the University of Toledo for two years and graduated from Ohio State University at Columbus, Ohio, with a B.C.E. degree in 1932. He received a professional C.E. degree in 1942. He attended and taught classes for several years at the Dept. of Agriculture Graduate School in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Snyder has been employed as a hydraulic engineer with: the U.S. Geological Survey in Washington, D.C.; the Tennessee Valley Authority in Knoxville, Tenn.; the Pennsylvania Dept. of Forests and Waters in Harrisburg, Pa.; the U.S. Weather Bureau in Pittsburgh, Pa., and Washington, D.C.; and with the Office, Chief of Engineers, Corps of Engineers, Washington, D.C. from 1942 to 1966. Since 1966 he has been self-employed as consulting hydrologic engineer, McLean, Va. In addition to projects in the United States, his consulting practice has included projects in Colombia, Mexico, Jamaica, Canada, Sudan, Ethiopia, East and West Pakistan, and Greece. Mrs. Snyder accompanies him on many trips including two journeys around the world.
Among awards received are: the J. James R. Croes medal of the American Society of Civil Engineers, jointly with two others in 1940; Exceptional Civilian Service award of the Dept. of War in 1946 for river forecasting of the Rhine River, Germany, 1944-45; Certificate of Recognition for over 20 years of service in connection with the International St. Lawrence River Seaway and Power Project at Ottawa, Canada, on Oct. 1, 1974.
Mr. Snyder is a member of Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Xi, American Meteorological Society, American Geophysical Union, U.S. Committee on Large Dams, Fellow, American Society of Civil Engineers, and member of the Cosmos Club of Washington, D.C. He is a registered professional engineer and surveyor in the State of Ohio.
Franklin F. Snyder was born in Holgate, Ohio, on Nov. 11, 1910, the son of Samuel Lewis and Nettie May (Farison) Snyder. Samuel L. Snyder was born Dec. 6, 1868, on a farm near Holgate, Ohio, and died in Holgate on May 24, 1924. Nettie May Farison was born Sept. 29, 1872, on a farm near Napoleon, Ohio, and died June 8, 1962, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were married Jan. 1, 1899, at the home of S. P. Farison. His brother Lincoln Lewis Snyder was born in Holgate, Ohio, in Feb., 1906, and has lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, since 1928. Lincoln married Ora Lee on July 7, 1948, in Las Vegas.
Mr. Snyder married Mary Elizabeth Bruton, Oct. 1, 1938, in Chester, Pa. They have three children all born in Washington, D.C. Marilyn Kay (Mrs. Brendan Curran Stack) was born Sept. 18, 1940. Carol Lamb (Mrs. Stephen David Garnett) was born March 6, 1946. Gregory Lewis was born Nov. 21, 1951.
