Louis John Schwiebert, sixth, and last child of Fred C. and Emma Hel berg Schwiebert, was born in Hamler, Ohio, Nov. 28, 1919.
During his first eight years, he attended the country school, taught for 2 of those years by his sister, Martha, and later graduated from Marion Township High School, and attended one year of business school in Lima, Ohio.
Louis served in the National Guard for 2 years before joining the Army (for 2 years) later transferring to the Air Force where he served for 21 years as a pilot and supply officer.
While serving in the Army at Los Angeles, California, he met and married Anne Emily Bidnick, who was born in Kansas City, Kansas, on June 14, 1918. Thereafter began 33 (to date) happy and rewarding years, filled with great experiences in the military way of life.
To add to our joy we were blessed first, with a daughter, Constance, born June 17, 1943, at Marysville, California, where we were stationed at Camp Beale. Connie attended various schools throughout the United States and Europe including the University of Maryland extension in Munich, Germany. She is now married to John A. O'Brien of Hershey, Pa., married there on June 19, 1965. John is a graduate of Princeton University and has a Master's degree in education from Johns Hopkins University at Baltimore, Md. He is now working for the U.S. Gov't. in the National Institute of Education. They live in Arlington, Virginia, and have a son, Jason Patrick, born August 3, 1972, in Washington, D.C. and a daughter, Kelly Kathleen, born May 14, 1974, in Washington, D.C.
Next, came a son, Louis John II, born in Bell, California, September 11, 1945. After touring the U.S. and Europe on our various assignments, he decided to go to college in San Luis Obispo, California, where the family had lived for 21/2 years. He studied psychology and police science at Questa Junior College and Cal Poly University. Lou II, then met and married Jane Martha Tolman of Morro Bay, California, on November 12, 1966, at San Luis Obispo. Jane attended Questa Junior College for 2 years before becoming a mother to Ryan Michael, born October 26, 1972, at San Luis Obispo. Lou II worked for the S.L.O. Police Department for several years and is now detective and member of the Special Weapons
Attack Team. He also owns a small business making "custom" pistol grips for hand guns. He hopes eventually to retire to the "grip" business. Lou and Jane own their home at Baywood Park in San Luis Obispo, California.
The last child, a son, Michael Richard, was born at Griffess Air Force Base, Rome, New York, on March 21, 1954. "Mike" too, became a military transient like the rest of the family, moving whenever and wherever sent, sometimes literally at a moment's notice. He went to school as did the other two children, in the U.S. and Europe. Michael, now at 21 (as of this writing) is still in school at Amarillo, Texas, (Texas State Institute of Technology). Mike is studying saddlery and leather work and business management. Mike's love of the out-of-doors and animals has led him to choose this field of study. He is also a talented writer of wild life stories and Western songs. He hopes to have one of his songs on record by September.
After 24 years of traveling and moving about, "father" Louis was retired from the U.S.A.F. as a Lt. Colonel from Olmsted A.F.B. at Hershey, Pa., August 14, 1964. Daughter Connie is now engaged to be married, and working at the Hershey Bank. Louis and Anne with their two sons left for California, Louis to work in real estate for 2 years. Unhappy away from the East, we returned to Washington, D.C. where Lou worked for the U.S. Gov't. in the Depts. of Army, Post Office, and Labor.
Through the years and the travels we became enamored of antique collecting which had started in Hershey, Pa., mainly collecting "primitives" and things before 1850.
While still living on the outskirts of Washington, D.C. at Camp Springs, Md., we still visited Pennsylvania at every opportunity searching for the "right" house for the collection of primitives. After 12 years of dreaming of an early Pa. stone house, one was found, through a fellow parishioner at the Lutheran Church in Pennsylvania.
After three years of restoring and redecorating and becoming more involved in antiques while commuting between Washington, D.C. and Pa., we decided in June, 1975, to move back to our beloved state of Pennsylvania after 33 happy, eventful and blessed years. Lou transferred his job to Letterhenny Army Depot at Chambersburg, Pa., near Carlisle; and Anne, to the antique business, collecting, doing "shows" and fixing the old stone house which dates back to 1750.
We have enjoyed our life, our children and grandchildren, our work and hobbies and now looking forward to many more happy years. We have indeed been blessed, - "Our Cup Runneth Over!"
