Rev. Carl H. Schroeder was born in Toledo, Ohio, on Jan. 18, 1878, the son of Fredrick Schroeder and Dora (Mueller) Schroeder both of whom were natives of Germany and settled in Toledo, Ohio.
Carl H. Schroeder was reared in Toledo and attended the public and parochial school there. He subsequently attended the Springfield (Illinois) College during 1893 and 1900.
Upon being ordained into the ministry of the Lutheran Church he first was assigned to missionary work at Swanton, Ohio, where he was successfully engaged for two years. After that he went to serve the pastorate of St. Paul's congregation in Flat Rock Township, just south of Napoleon, Ohio.
On August 17, 1902, he married Dorothea "Dora" Otte, daughter of Frederick "Fred" Otte and Anna Baden Otte of Ridgeville Township. She was born Aug. 17, 1881. They resided there in Flat Rock Township for about ten years, then moved to the South Ridge, Defiance County, Ohio, where Rev. Schroeder was pastor at St. Stephens Lutheran Church until his death on Oct. 15, 1942. Dora went to Toledo, Ohio, and stayed there during her retirement. She passed away on April 2, 1969.
Their children were: Almeda, born July 28, 1903. She worked during her adult life in Toledo, Ohio, and passed away on April 11, 1973; Elmer, born Jan. 9, 1905. He married Frieda Their- off on Aug. 19, 1930, they have two children, and are retired living in Chicago, Ill. Carlton "Carl," was born on Nov. 19, 1908, was married on June 22, 1935, to Fay Pontius. He worked in
Toledo, Ohio. They had three children; he passed away Dec. 8, 1973; Alma Schroeder, born on March 20, 1911, worked in Toledo, Ohio, married Henry Niermann on Nov. 19, 1938. Henry passed away on Dec. 12, 1971; Walter was born Sept. 1, 1912, was married on Sept. 10, 1938, to Elisabeth Troeger. He is employed in Toledo, Ohio, where they live; they have 3 children.
