Alfred R. Scheble, Sr., was born in Delaware County, Ohio, and married, in Henry County, Ohio, Dora Belle Martin who had been born in Henry County.
Mr. Scheble graduated from the law school of the University of Ohio and began the practice of law at Napoleon, Ohio. He was twice elected to represent his district in the General Assembly of Ohio.
He left Napoleon to seek a change of climate for health reasons and finally in 1877 settled in Reno County, Kansas, where he became one of the leading lawyers. He was elected to represent his district in the Kansas State Legislature and so had the rare distinction of serving in two different state assemblies.
He died in December, 1885, at the age of thirty-six years. His widow died at Hutchinson, Kansas, in May 1912, at the age of fifty-four years. They were the parents of three children: Alfred Reuben, Jr., Max Carl, and Elma Janet.
