J.C. Saur was a druggist and operated a book store in Napoleon, Ohio. He was born in Summit County, Ohio, in 1841 and was the son of Levi and Sarah Buck Saur, grandson of Jacob and Mary Saur, and greatgrandson of John Saur, a veteran of the War of 1812.
J.C. Saur located in Napoleon, Ohio, in 1865. He had married, at Fremont, Ohio, in 1864, Prudence Ann Belden, daughter of Martin and Eliza Murray Belden, who was born in Lorain County, Ohio, on March 2, 1840.
Prudence Belden Saur entered medical college in 1869, graduated in March, 1871, and entered practice in Napoleon in 1872. She was one of the first four ladies to gain entrance to the Ohio Medical Society.
