Emil Rosebrook Family

Emil Rosebrook was the fourth child of William and Dorothea Lulfs Rosebrook, and was born on May 13, 1847, four miles northwest of Deshler, Ohio. As a child he helped on his parents’ farm. One of the highlights of his childhood were the visits from the city cousins, the Shoop boys. Emil and his brothers did not consider the city boys very smart as there were so many things they did not know. Descendants think that the city cousins probably returned to Toledo with the same thoughts about their country cousins.

Emil attended a one room public school about one half mile from the Rosebrook home, that was then known as the Bartlow school, and later called the Schweibert School. He received his religous instruction at Peace Lutheran School.

Courting days meant going to Ecke Corner on Sunday evenings where the young people from miles around would meet for fellowship. Few had buggies so most walked their girls’ homes. A way of communicating during the week was mailing postcards, even among close neighbors.

Emil married Anna Hoops and they had five children: Ellen, Lillian, Oren, and Andrew Rosebrook.

Ellen married Harold Peterson and had Howard who married Sharon Zeller and had Sonja, Howard Jr., and Heidi. Howard and Sharon were divorced and he married Sandra Snow as his second wife. Howard and Sandra had Benjamin. The second child of Ellen and Harold Peterson is Kenneth who married Barbara Weaver and has James, Rhonda and John. The third child is Leon Peterson who married Mary Heaster and has Michael and Susan; the fourth child is Marcelle Peterson who married Leroy Caplinger and has Leroy Jr., and the fifth child is Harold Peterson who married Connie Baer and has Miranda."

Lillian Rosebrook, the second child of Emil and Anna Rosebrook, married Warren Massmann and has Calvin who married Donna Fine and has Benjamin, Mark, Andrea, Joel, Brent, Katherine, and Dean.

The third child, Oren Rosebrook, married Luella Sommers and has Marie who married Steven Polifka and has Alicia; and Linda.

Andrew Rosebrook was the fourth child of Emil and Anna Hoops, and married and has Jennifer who married Michael Hughes and has Ann; Amy who married Steven Miller and has Brook; James who married Marie Taschler, and Rachel.

The fifth child of Emil and Anna Rosebrook is Charlotte who married Kenneth Harris and has Steven who married Ann Geppert and has Stefan; Kent; Brian; and Todd. Charlotte never saw her father as he died a few months before her birth.

In March, 1978, there were forty- four descendants living. Emil died on March 30, 1927.
