Lloyd Rettig attended Holgate High School. He married Marjorie Eileen (Durham) Rettig on May 21, 1942. Marjorie was the daughter of the late Mark and Bertha (Cessna) Durham. Marjorie was age 13 when her mother died. There were ten children in her family. Her father, Mark died in January, 1974. Marjorie was born at Lima, Ohio, and at the age of three, her family moved to Henry County on a farm, and later moved to the City of Napoleon, where she graduated from Napoleon High School. Lloyd and Marge made their first home on the Samuel Hoff farm. Lloyd was inducted into the U.S. Army March 13, 1943. Then they rented an apartment from John and Luella Hoffman. There, their first daughter was born, Marian Eileen Rettig on February 3, 1944. Lloyd was then in the army serving in the European Theatre in World War II, until his discharge December 3, 1945. After his discharge, they bought a farm home from Edward Peper which was located east of Holgate on State Route 18. They moved the home to Holgate on East Railway Avenue. While living there, they had a son, Terry Lee Rettig born September 19, 1946. In 1948, they had a daughter, Bertha Diane Rettig on Valentines Day. In the fall of 1949, they moved the family to Grand Forest Beach, Huron, Ohio. Lloyd worked for the Ohio Edison while living there, They had a son, Anthony Wayne Rettig born on June 20, 1954. In the spring of 1955, Lloyd and his family moved back to Holgate on the Rosie Hoff farm. In December, 1955, Lloyd and Marjorie bought the Copp home, Holgate, Ohio, where they presently make their home. They have 32 acres of land on County Road F-1, east of Holgate. Lloyd is now employed at the Four County Joint Vocational School as Supervisor of Building and Grounds. They are members of St. John's United Church of Christ, Holgate, Ohio.
Marian Rettig graduated from Holgate High School in 1962. Then she attended Stautzenberger Business College, Toledo, Ohio, where she graduated in 1963. She worked for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company in Toledo, Ohio. On June 20, 1963, she married Robert Helberg, son of Robert and Bonnie Heiberg, Holgate, Ohio. They moved to Columbus, Ohio, where Bob was attending Ohio State University. While there, they had a daughter, Cynthia Ranee born May 31, 1964, a son, Robert Lloyd, born April 21, 1966. In 1967, Bob graduated from College as a Mechanical Engineer. They moved to Akron, Ohio, and Bob worked for the Goodyear Tire Company for two years. They then moved to Kent, Ohio. Here they had twin daughters, Heide and Heather born September 7, 1968. Robert changed positions and the family moved to Milford, Michigan, where he is employed at General Motors Proving Grounds. Marian is attending Oakland Community College. They are members of Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church.
Terry Rettig graduated from Holgate High School in 1964. He also graduated from Andrew Toledo Barber College in 1965. He was drafted into the U.S. Army December 6, 1965, serving two years. Terry was discharged from Fort Knox, Kentucky, December 15, 1967. He returned to work at the Modern Barber Shop, Holgate, Ohio. He married Kathryn Jean (Burgei) Rettig, daughter of Lawrence and Lucille Burgei on May 3, 1969. They lived on the George Ricker farm South of Holgate for about one and one-half years. There they had a daughter, Tammy Lyn Rettig born March 15, 1970. They moved to Holgate on Ann Street in 1971. There they had another daughter, Dawn Marie Rettig on August 23, 1972. Later they moved to a home they bought and now live in at 4100 Harris Road, Defiance County, Ohio, in 1973. There a son was born on October 15, 1975, Mark Edward Rettig. Terry is presently a lineman for the Toledo Edison Company. Kathy, his wife, is employed as a bus driver for the Ayersville Schools. They are members of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Holgate, Ohio.
Bertha Rettig graduated from Holgate High School in 1966. She then attended Weaver Airline School. Upon graduation, she accepted a position with the Eastern Airlines in Chicago, Illinois. She lived in Chicago until just before her marriage. She worked for a Toledo Travel Agency. On September 7, 1968, she married Tim Shiarla, son of Raymond and Helen Shiarla, Malinta, Ohio. Bertha and Tim made their first home in Rossford, Ohio. Tim was attending Penta County Technical College of Perrysburg, Ohio. Upon graduation, he accepted a position at Toledo Edison. Their first son, Matthew Todd was born December 27, 1970. Tim was transferred to Defiance, Ohio, and they purchased a home on Maumee Drive. There, their second son, Mark David was born on May 8, 1974. They are members of Zion Lutheran Church, Defiance, Ohio.
Anthony Wayne Rettig graduated from Holgate High School. He attended Defiance College. Tony married Judith Kay (Ewing) Rettig, daughter of Dale and Donna Ewing, Pleasant Bend, Ohio. They were married August 10, 1974. They moved on the Floyd Yaichner farm where they lived for about ten months. Then they moved to Pleasant Bend, Ohio, in the Robert Gebhart House. On August 6, 1975, their son, Andrew Scott was born. They bought one acre of land from Lloyd and Marge Rettig and built a new home located on County Road F-1, east of Holgate, Ohio. Tony is self-employed. He has the Rettig Chemical Distributing Company. Judy, his wife is also self-employed. She is a baton corps instructor and gives private lessons. They are members of St. John's United Church of Christ, Holgate, Ohio.
