Clarence Nicholas Rettig

Born August 2, 1889 in Flatrock Township, Henry County, Ohio. Deceased March 14, 1935. C. N. Rettig was the son of Nicholas A. Rettig (1846-1888) and Margaret Ann Bortz (1847-1901). C. N. Rettig managed offices of the Ohio Gas Light & Coke Co. and obtained franchises for laying gas lines in Bryan, Stryker, and Montpieler, Ohio, and Bridgeport and Lawrenceville, Illinois, before becoming a fireman on the D.T.&I. R.R. in Napoleon, Ohio. At the time the Heller property, corner Clinton and Scott Sts., Napoleon, Ohio, was remodeled for hospital use, he worked on installation of the heating and plumbing systems there. An elder in the First Presbyterian Church, Napoleon, Ohio, and the Napoleon Masonic Lodge, he married Marie Loitz on February 8, 1914. He was the father of Margaret Ann Rettig and Betty Marie (Rettig) Benien.
