I, Veva Marceil (Rechner) Doll, was born to Franklin and Clara (Good) Rechner in 1909 near McClure, Ohio.
My maternal great grandparents were Jacob Good and Margret (Raider) Good, and Jacob Houser and Elizabeth (Finkbone) Houser; all four were of Fairfield County, Ohio. They were of Pennsylvania Dutch ancestry.
My maternal grandparents were William Good (1846-1930) and Jane (Houser) Good (1846-1881) of Fairfield County, Ohio. Jane died leaving six children. My mother Clara, the oldest girl, was 12 years old and took charge of the home. That fall Clara, Iva, Cora, and Jim came by train to Damascus Township, in Henry County. Grandfather and sons Els and Hemp drove through in a covered wagon. I have a hub of one wheel of that wagon. He bought 40 acres of woods in Damascus Twp. and developed it; later he added 20 acres and 35 acres tracts to his holdings.

In 1882 my grandfather, William Good, remarried. He married Sylvia Myers, daughter of Samuel Myers and Charlotte Myers.
My paternal grandparents were Peter Rechner and Susana (Goss) (Krantz) Rechner. Peter (1816-1898) was born in Baden, Germany. He was three months crossing the Atlantic. His bed was a 2 ft. x 6 ft. wooden box in which he stored his possessions, including a German Catholic Bible. I have this Bible. He was one of the founders of the St. Louis Catholic Church in Custar, Ohio. Susana's 1st marriage was to Ferdinand Krantz. They had three daughters. Their house has been restored by Ruth and John Ervin in Wood County. Ferdinand died and Susana married Peter Rechner in 1850. This union was blessed with four children.
My father, Frank (1864-1944) the youngest, was born in Wood County, Ohio. He came to McClure in 1887 to manage the I. B. Banks Hardware Store. This building stood on Lot # 18 where the Legion Hall now stands. The building was remodeled into a home by Clarence Barnes and is now Byron Shufelt's home.
In 1889 Frank met Clara Good (18691938) who was working in Silas Smith's home and restaurant for thehigh wages of 75c a week. It was love at first sight; they were married and Clara went to work in Frank's hardware store.
In 1900 Frank started his own hardware and tin shop on Lot #4. This building burned in 1914 but was rebuilt the same year. He retired in 1942 and later sold the building to Hoffman Egg Co.
Frank and Clara adopted Ethel Roach (1891-1973) in 1892. She taught school for several years and then married LeRoy Foor in 1913. They had three children who now live in Toledo, Ohio.
My brother Floyd Rechner (18931956) volunteered for World War I and served in 112 Supply Train in France and Belgium. Soon after enlisting he married Gladys Bisher of near Colton, Ohio. Gladys is now married to Charles Brummet and lives in Oregon, Ohio.
Our home was located on a 5 acre tract at the south city limits of McClure, first place south of the Grange Hall. My father always had the first new potatoes for sale in the spring.
We attended the United Brethren Church in McClure and the Damascus Township School.
I graduated from high school in 1927, then worked in my father's store. I also worked in Findlay and Perrysburg before my marriage to Earnest R. Doll in 1938.
