John Poley died on November 18, 1893 at the age of forty-nine years, nine months and two days. He was born in Germany and died in Marion Township. His wife, Anna C. Schneider Poley, died in Marion Township on February 5, 1903.
They had, according to Anna's will, these children: Mary Lowry, Mrs. Ed. King, John Poley, Catharine, Kate, Brinkman, Frank, Margaret Smith and Charles Poley. Catharine was fourteen when her father died, and Charles was twelve years old. Catharine was born on July 27, 1882 and Charles was born on July 1, 1884. Catharine and Charles were also heirs to personal property of Frank Poley of Fostoria, Ohio, probably their grandfather. Anna Schneider Poley and Catharine and Charles continued to live at Hamler after the death of John.
Anna died in 1903 after Catharine was married.
Book One of Henry County Births also lists the birth of two other children in the Poley family. John Poley was born on April 16, 1875 to John and Catharine Poley. Emma Poley, born on October 12, 1879 to John and Catharine Poley, died on October 4, 1881. It is thought that these children belonged to John and his first wife.
A branch of the Schneider family also related was that of Martin and Gertrude Schneider. Their daughter was the first wife of C. Brinkman, and she died before 1875, and was born about 1840. C. Brinkman married Mary Stepha as his second wife. Children may have been born to the first marriage but no record of them is available.
