In 1853, George and Jane (Sawkins) Philpott left Kent County near London, England, in April arriving in the U.S. in June with three children: William S., the eldest, who was baptized in Caterbury Cathedral; James had died in infancy; John and George, Jr. who was a babe in arms. They came on a cattle boat to New York City which took six weeks and three days. After many days of rough travel through swamps and forests, they arrived at the home of Mrs. Philpott's brother, Ruben Simmons, near Weston, Ohio. They stayed one year and nine months in the Simmons' home of only four rooms where Austin was born. They then found a home among good Americans near Grand Rapids, where three more children were born: Rosetta, Stephen, and Thomas D. The first and fifth sons, William and Austin became ministers of the Methodist Church.
In 1870 they moved to Henry County, Damascus Township, and bought a 160 acre farm known as the Dave Hockman farm near McClure, Ohio. They were living on this farm when Mrs. Philpott passed away in July, 1889. Mr. Philpott lived with his children until his death on Christmas Day 1894.
William and Mary Benskin Philpott had two sons, both died in infancy. James died at 1 year of age and John died at age 21.
George Jr. and Ida Meyers' children were: Mary, a teacher in McClure High School; Edna, a teacher; Austin, a hardware business in Ada, Ohio; Bertha died at age nine years; Vincent passed away at an early age.
Austin and Etta Fay Reese children were: Clifton of California; Reese, a doctor at Pomroy, Ohio; and Mary Helen Brackney of Toledo.
Rosetta and Frank Garster children were George, who passed away while a young man, and John who passed away in Lakeland, Florida.
Stephen and Allie Domer children were Nettie Weaks now in Winebrenner Rest Home in Findlay, Ohio. A son and daughter died in infancy.

This male quartet composed of Charley Garster, Thomas Philpott, Stephen Philpott and Charley Hughes (accompanist Mrs. Stephen Philpott) sang for farmer institutes, funerals, etc. for a number of years in the early 1900's.

Thomas D. and Etta Anthony children were: Edith Reid, a graduate of Flower Hospital in Toledo, Ohio; Frances Kasten is a graduate of Sibley Hospital at Washington D.C.; Walden attended Ohio State University; Jessie Moore graduated from McClure High School; Lloyd deceased at one year and three months; Kenneth a graduate of Arcadia High School now a farmer and gardner.
In 1890 Thomas and Etta Philpott bought 40 acres of swamp land south of McClure and cleared it and built a home for their family of six children.
In August, 1915, Mrs. Philpott passed away at the age of 50 in Flower Hospital in Toledo, Ohio.
In March, 1917, the farm was sold to Frank Whitney and the Philpotts moved to a farm near Arcadia, Ohio.
In 1947 Mr. Philpott passed away at the age of 86 years and the farm was sold.
