Rundle Palmer, grandfather of Sumner came to Henry Co. about 1860. The ancestors came from England to Conn. about 1638. They migrated to Penn. then Seneca Co., Ohio, and then Henry Co. He married Lottie Reed, a daughter of Judge Reed of Bowling Green, Ohio. He bought the family farm, situated in Harrison Twp. from money earned while in the Civil War.
To this union were born two children; Alva and Nellie (Jennings). Alva married Golda Snyder, whose parents were Simon and Samantha (Meyers) Snyder. They also migrated from Penn. and Seneca Co., Ohio, to Harri son Twp. in Henry Co., Ohio. They all were members of Sharon Methodist Church in Harrison Twp. All of the ancestors were farmers.
To the union of Alva and Golda Palmer was born Sumner Rundle Palmer, who lived on and farmed this same family farm in Harrison Twp. He married Helen L. Snyder. She was the daughter of Wm. H. Snyder, a farmer in Henry Co., and Ruth Leist Snyder. Wm. Snyder was the son of James Snyder and Mary Rhody. The Snyder ancestors came from Germany then into Pennsylvania and finally to Henry Co., Ohio, Ruth Leist Snyder was the daughter of Isaiah and Catherine Fawley. Isaiah Leist was a druggist in Napoleon, Ohio, for fifty years. Helen Snyder Palmer has two sisters, Mary C. Phillips residing in Henry Co. and Frances Buchhop in California. Mary C. Phillips and husband James R. Phillips have four daughters: Susan Morr, Ruthann Cordes, Mary Ellen, and Laura.
To the union of Helen and Sumner Palmer were born Lawrence Gene, and Wm. Alva (deceased). Lawrence married Marilyn Babcock and they have three children Deborah, Julie, and Jeffery. They reside on the same family farm in Harrison Twp., Henry Co., Ohio. These children are all members of the children of the American Revolution.
Sumner has been active in Farm Bureau work and also was active in getting a Soil Conservation District in Henry Co., being one of its first supervisors.
