This is the history of the Arthur D. Palmer family. They arrived in this county around 1900. He had previously lived in Henry County but after his marriage to Ritta Belle Harmon on October 28, 1888, they moved to Cecil, then Paulding, and then back to Henry County. They first lived in Liberty Center, then McClure, then Napoleon, then out to a farm in Harrison Township and back to Napoleon. They chose to live here to farm and also ran a livery stable while living in the town of Napoleon. The first homesite in this county was a house close to Liberty Center. Arthur and Ritta Belle raised four children namely Gladys - born Aug. 9, 1889; Glen - born April 24, 1892; Nina - born June 16, 1894; and Loren - born March 13, 1903. The children attended school at Liberty Center, McClure, and then Napoleon. The family attended the Methodist Church. Arthur D. Palmer was born Nov. 10, 1864. He died in 1942. His wife, Ritta Belle, was born March 8, 1866. She died in 1932.
Gladys and Nina both graduated from Napoleon High School and both chose teaching as their occupation. Later Nina married Oliver Mears and they still make their home in Toledo. Gladys taught school in Cleveland, Ohio, and retired from teaching there. She died in December, 1964. Loren worked in Toledo and then made his home in Archbold, Ohio, where he worked for a meat packing company. Loren died in the fall of 1962. Glen bought a farm in Harrison Township and farmed and also worked for the Henry County Mutual Insurance Company. Glen married Estella Dorothy Caroline Schultz in May, 1914. Glen died on June 3, 1953. Glen and Estella raised three children. They are Ronald K., Marlene and Jerry J. Ronald died in April of 1960. Marlene married Howard Saul and lives near Wauseon. Jerry J. married Mary Lou Saneholtz on June 5, 1954. They have three children: Douglas - born August 7, 1959; Joan - born Dec. 3, 1961; and Todd - born April 29, 1967. Jerry lives and farms in Harrison Township.
