David D. Myers, the son of James Myers, was born March 12, 1833, at Fairfield County, Ohio. He was one of five children born to James and Sarah Myers. The family had originally settled at Seneca County, Ohio. David married Amelia E. Skeels on February 1, 1859, and prior to this time he migrated to Henry County, Ohio. To this union three children were born: May C. Myers born November 17, 1859, who married John W. Foor on August 6, 1877; Pliney D. Myers born November 17, 1871, who married Alice Belle Pope on June 19, 1892; and Lottie H. Myers born October 18, 1873, who married William Bauman in November of 1891.
David was a member of Company "H" 66th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, a part of the Union Army. He was honorably discharged from the service at the end of the Civil War on June 3, 1865, his occupation listed on his discharge stated he was a farmer.
David received a government pension of $20.00 per month effective on March 21, 1908, approved by James Garfield who at that time was Secretary of the Interior. He also became a member of the U.S. Grant Post #5, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of the Grand Army of the Republic.
Pliney D. Myers in his early life was well known in and around Harrison Township. The farm he and his wife worked was located on the old Fifteen Road just north of Sharon Church. Later on in years he also worked for Harrison Township trustees maintaining the various roads in the township.
There were eight children from this union. Their first child, Carl D. Myers, was born February 9, 1893; however, he only lived a short time until May 14, 1893. Floyd Emmons Myers was born 1894 at Harrison Township and died September 17, 1950. He was united in marriage to Mary Catherine Ulrich on October 31, 1917. Lelah Fay Myers was born May 8, 1897, and was married to Lee Weaks on September 20, 1915, who is now deceased. He was a school teacher near Liberty Center, Ohio. Leta Mae Myers was born on February 14, 1900, and was united in marriage with Harrison Huber on February 27, 1919. They reside south of Holgate, Ohio, on a farm. Frank P. Myers was born December 2, 1901. He was united in marriage to Frances Morey on June 21, 1923. They presently reside on the Old County Line Road north of Liberty Center. Frank is retired at this time. Raymond Clifford Myers was born April 22, 1904, and married Doris Lando of Defiance County in June of 1932. Raymond is deceased, he died November 6, 1939, leaving his widow and one child Rex, who now lives in Scottsdale, Arizona. Buford David Myers was born July 18, 1907, and was united in marriage with Gertrude Thomas of Paulding, Ohio, on May 29, 1937. He was construction supervisor for many years with Langendorfer Road Construction Company prior to his recent retirement. He currently resides at Reynolds Corners, Toledo, Ohio. Sarah Amelia Myers was born on April 10, 1917, and was united in marriage with Albert G. Heidet on August 20, 1942. They currently reside at Point Place, Ohio. She was for many years associated with the Oliver Mears Automobile Agency in Toledo, Ohio.
Floyd E. Myer
Floyd Emmons Myers resided in his early life on the farm with his parents in Harrison Township. Shortly after marriage to Mary C. Ulrich he was called to service during World War I. He was assigned to the Provost Guard Company of the Military Police Unit at Camp Zacharay Taylor, Kentucky, a short distance from Louisville, Kentucky. He was discharged on March 27, 1919.
For a number of years he worked for the DT & I Railroad as a fireman. Just prior to the death of his father-in-law William H. Ulrich he and his wife Mary Catherine lived in the tenant house in the old Ulrich farm. Shortly after Mr. Ulrich's death, they moved into the old Ulrich home, which dates back to 1861, to reside with Mrs. Ida Ulrich. They were both members of St. Paul's Methodist Episcopal Church in Napoleon. During the years to come he was very prominent in the truck farming business, raising produce for the various markets in Detroit, Cincinnati, and Columbus. To this union five children were born: Robert Ulrich Myers was born December 29, 1919, at Napoleon, Ohio, and was united in marriage with Helen Ruth Houts on June 18, 1944. She is a graduate of Liberty Center High School, Class of '41. She was born and raised at Colton, Ohio. Betty Lucille Myers was born April 30, 1925 at Napoleon, Ohio. She is a graduate of Napoleon High School.
She was united in marriage with Theodore Wichman of Defiance County. They have two children, David a student at Napoleon High School and Mrs. Micheal Flory living at Ridgeville, Ohio. Marjorie Janet Myers who was born October 1, 1931. She is a graduate of Napoleon High School. She was married to the late Richard B. Franz of Holgate, Ohio. He was construction foreman with the Harper Construction Company of Napoleon. They have four children. Jeffrey who is a graduate of the School of Optometry, Ohio State University Class of '75 and married to the former Barbara Meyer of Holgate. Steven a student at Bowling Green University. Mary and Tom both students at Holgate Public Schools. Harold Gene Myers who was born April 24, 1933, at Napoleon, Ohio, and was united in marriage to Marlene Schnitkey of Napoleon, Ohio. They currently live in Greentown, Indiana. He is employed with a motor freight company located in Marion, Indiana. They have three children, Raymond, Catherine, and Donald, all students in the local schools. David William Myers who was born September 6, 1936, and who died on August 12, 1940, after several years of illness.
Robert U. Myers, after graduating from high school at Napoleon, Ohio, Class of '37, spent 26 years in the United States Army and United States Air Force. He served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired from the Strategic Air Command, U.S. Air Force on the 30th day of November, 1965. Upon retirement he and his wife Helen made Tucson, Arizona, their permanent residence. For the past six years he has been employed with the Palo Verde Hospital as a hospital engineer.
There were three children born to this union. James Allan Myers born June 17, 1945, at Miami, Florida, who died in infancy. Gregory Kent Myers who was born August 18, 1947, at Lansing, Michigan, and who was united in marriage to Linda Elizabeth MacPhee on March 28, 1970. She is a native of Tucson, Arizona. Greg and his wife Linda are both graduates of Northern Arizona University, majoring in education. During his college years he entered the United States Navy for four years, and his wife accompanied him to U.S. Naval Base, Naha, Okinawa. They are now residing in Paradise Valley, Arizona. Michael David Myers who was born on October 23, 1949, at Battle Creek, Michigan, was united in marriage with Katherine Owen House on April 12, 1975. She was born in Williamston, North Carolina. After one year of college at Eastern Arizona College, he entered the U.S. Navy for a four year period. He spent two tours in Vietnam, one with River Patrol Duty in the Mekong Delta and the second tour off "Yankee Station" aboard the Destroyer Escort U.S.S. Oulett-DE1077. Upon his return to civilian life he worked for a period 'of time with Sambo Restaurant Chain as an Assistant Manager. Since then he has been employed with Magma Copper Company in the smelter at the San Manuel, Arizona mine. His wife Kathy attended college at the University of Arizona in Tucson and is employed with the Palo Verde Hospital in charge of Admissions.
