Madison Matthew Morey, the eldest son of Jay and Susannah (Redman) Morey was born on September 2, 1854 at Liberty Township. He married Sarah Viora Rakestraw, the daughter of Kimbal and Mary Ann (Zallers) Rakestraw, on February 10, 1881. She was born on November 22, 1861 at Napoleon, Ohio.
During their early married life they lived on a part of the Morey farm in Liberty Township. Later Mr. Morey ran a coal yard in Napoleon and eventually they moved to Toledo where he worked for the Jenin Co. at Perrysburg which made bicycles and baby carriages. Mr. Morey also worked as a government mail clerk on the railroad at Toledo.
The Morey's lived at Fremont, Ohio when Matt Morey died on March 28, 1939. Sarah Morey lived until June 19, 1948 and she died at Detroit, Michigan. They are buried with the Rakestraw family at Forest Hill Cemetery at Napoleon.
Matt and Sarah Morey were the parents of two sons: Gale Harold, born Dec. 19, 1885 at Napoleon Township; and Carl William, born March 3, 1891 at Napoleon. Gale Morey married Lela
Haines and lived at Toledo where he worked for Sun Oil Company. They had a son and a daughter. Carl W. Morey married Kathryn Reffert and they lived at Detroit, Michigan where he was a salesman. Carl Morey served in an Ohio unit of the Army in World War I. They have two sons living in Michigan.
