John Moden was born near One hundred Foot River, Little Downer, Lincolnshire, England, in 1848. He died on February 17, 1911, in Napoleon. His wife was born in 1843 and died on November 9, 1900. They are buried in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Napoleon, Ohio.
Amelia Moden was born on February 8, 1850, and it is thought was a sister to John Moden. Amelia married George Davis, born September 5, 1841 in Wayne County, Ohio.
Family sources relate that John and Amelia were children of Robert, born 1825, and Nancy, born 1816, died 1877, in England, but this has not been proved.
Amelia Moden Davis had several children including Daniel, George, Jennie, Addie, Matilna and Ansilla Davis. Matilna and Ansilla died as children and are buried in Union Chapel Cemetery, Napoleon Township.
George Davis married Anna Eis. Daniel married but had no issue. Jennie married Alonzo Kline and had Alice, Arthur, Wayne and Melba Kline.
Alonzo was an agent for a lightning rod company in Napoleon. Addie married Augustus Motter.
The 1860 Census for Ridgeville Township lists James Moden, his wife, Marce, and children John, Edward, and Sizer. It is thought that James and Marce emigrated from England in 1848.
The 1860 Census for Napoleon Township lists John, Sophia, and children, Venia, Delphia, Mary J., and Amelia. All were born in England, and it is thought that they came over in 1855. Amelia married George Davis on June 29, 1865.
Rebecca Moden was born on March 12, 1871, in Henry County, to Andrew and Elizabeth Moden.
Mrs. Nancy Moden was married three times. Her first marriage to a Mr. Inman gave her one son, William Inman.
Nancy married Robert Moden on September 9, 1875. After Robert's death, she married Henry Funk on March 26, 1881, and moved to Butler County, Indiana.
In 1884 Mrs. Nancy Funk moved to Independence, Ohio.
