Ambrose Miller Family

Ambrose Miller, Sr. was born on September 15, 1834 in Bavaria, Germany, a son of George Miller who remained in Moadlas, Germany. The Miller family were of the Catholic faith in Germany. Theresa Snyder was born on July 4, 1836.

Ambrose Miller, Theresa Snyder Miller, and several other persons set out for America in a sailboat. They left the port of Bremen on April 6, 1858 and landed at New York City after a voyage of ninety-six days. A daughter, Mathilda, was born on mid-ocean to Ambrose and Theresa Miller on July 1, 1858. Since their German marriage was not recognized in America, Ambrose and Theresa were married in a legal ceremony on August 16, 1858, with John Beck, husband of Margaret Miller Beck, singing witness.

Ambrose Miller died on May 5, 1904 and Theresa Miller died on April 3, 1934. They are buried in Locust Grove Cemetery, Ridgeville Corners, Ohio. Theresa was always called Tracy and that name appears on her tombstone.

Mathilda Miller married Christian D. Roth, a farmer and Mennonite minister. Christian was born in 1857 and died in 1939. Mathilda died in 1926. They are buried in Lauber Hill Cemetery, a Mennonite church cemetery, in Fulton County, Ohio. The Roth history is in volume 1.

Mary Miller was born in 1860 and died in 1951. She married Peter Layman. Peter was born in 1859 and died in 1882. After his death, Mary married Herman Spengler who was born in 1854 and died in 1939. Mary is buried at Lauber Hill Cemetery. She had one son, Edward Layman.

Anthony Andrew Miller was born in 1861 and died in 1938. He married Emma C. Myers in December, 1885. Emma was born in 1866 at Bucyrus, Ohio, to John and Magdalene Rich Myers. Anthony and Emma adopted Grace Miller Stotzer, wife of Harold Stotzer, Archbold, Ohio.

John A. Miller was born in 1862 and died in 1942. His wife, Elizabeth Myers, was born in 1872.

Ida Ona Miller was horn in 1864 and died in 1945. She married John Eicher who was born in 1860 and died in 1944. The Eicher history is in Volume 1.

Henry Miller was born on October 2, 1866 and died on December 16, 1886 of a broken neck and suffocation. He never married and is buried with his parents on their grave plot.

Frances Miller was born in 1869 and died in 1947. She married Daniel Myers who was born in 1868 and died in 1923.

George Miller was born in 1871 and died in 1945. He married Veronica Steinman who was born in 1875 and died in 1945.

Ambrose Miller, Jr. was born in 1873 and died in 1958. He married Kate Bolley who was born in 1877. They adopted Wilbur Miller whose history is in Volume 1.

The youngest child of Ambrose Theresa Snyder Miller was Elizabeth Miller who was born in 1875 and died in 1960. She married Jacob Myers who was born in 1873 and died in 1950.

There is a difference in opinion of the descendents of George Miller, Sr. It is thought that Ambrose and George Miller, born 1824, John Miller, Margaret Miller Beck, and Elizabeth Miller Keller were brothers and sisters. But another branch of the family thinks that Ambrose was the son of George Miller of a different marriage than George and his sisters and brother. The Miller children all came to Henry

County and located on farms near each other and have many descendants living in the Henry County area in 1979.
