Maynard H. Meyer, son of Edward H. and Julia Plassman Meyer, was born May 5, 1915, in Wauseon, Ohio. On May 16, 1941, he married Lucille A. Otte, born Feb. 7, 1917, daughter of Edward H. and Doris L. Schroeder Otte. They were married in Defiance County, and at first stayed with her mother, in Ridgeville Corners, and later on purchased the property for their home.
Lucille finished two years at Bowling Green University in 1937, and then taught two years in the 8th grade one room public "Dittmer" school, about one and a half miles west of Ridgeville Corners. Then she taught two years in the new consolidated Ridgeville Rural School Building.
In the building of the new consolidated school, the Board salvaged whatever they could from the one room schools in the district. As they were taking out the large pieces of slate used for the blackboard in the Dittmer School, they uncovered evidence of the pupils, attending the school at the time the slates were originally installed. Apparently the teacher let the children write their name on the old blackboard, before the new ones were placed in, giving Lucille evidence that her father went to school in this same building some forty years before she taught there.
Maynard started selling farm machinery shortly before they were married, first in Ridgeville Corners, then in Napoleon, and other towns, and later returned to Ridgeville Corners, where Maynard and his brother Lomer, built a new building on the corner of U.S. 6 and First Street, for their farm machinery business.
Maynard and Lucille have four children. They all attended the local and area schools and are members of the Zion Lutheran Church.
