The Mary Schwiebert Meyer Family

Mary Schwiebert, daughter of Henry and Anna (Von Broeling) Schwiebert, was born January 5, 1886, in Henry Co. She married Henry T. Meyer of Gerald, Ohio, on April 27, 1906. Henry was born on May 9, 1881, in Freedom Twp., Henry Co., Ohio, the son of Henrich and Elizabeth Meyer.

Henry and Mary lived in Napoleon, Ohio, for a time and were co-owners of a grocery and dairy store known as Gathman & Meyer. In 1913 there was a change in ownership and the business became Meyer & Hagen. They later moved to the Hamler, Ohio area where they were engaged in farming and also owned and operated a Hamler restaurant and gas station during the years1927-1929.

They were members of the St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Hamler. Henry passed away on July 6, 1962, at 81 and Mary on February 16, 1971, at 85. They had two children, a son Lawrence H., born November 5, 1910, and a daughter Lulu, born May 9, 1918.

Lawrence married Esther Rettig of Holgate, Ohio, on July 25, 1929. They lived in Defiance, Ohio, where he was employed as manager of The City Loan & Savings Co. until his death on August 25, 1968.

Esther now lives in Napoleon, Ohio. They have one daughter, Donna M., born September 10, 1930, and she married Orville Daman, Napoleon, Ohio, a marketer of petroleum products. They reside in Napoleon and have three children: Mary, born July 14, 1953; Julie, born April 29, 1958; and Brad, born November 27, 1961.

Lulu married Dale E. Rigel, Leipsic, Ohio, on August 27, 1936, and they reside on a farm in Putnam Co. between Hamler and Leipsic. They have two sons, Larry Dale, born March 8, 1942, and Thomas Edward, born January 21, 1947. Larry D. married Cynthia Strayer, Delphos, Ohio, on July 7, 1963. Larry is associated with The Andersons of Maumee, Ohio, as merchandise manager of the retail sales division. They live near Maumee, Ohio, and have two daughters: Aimee, born June 21, 1964; Wendy, born October 20, 1967; and a son, Thomas Dale, born April 18, 1973.

Thomas E. is a Doctor of Chiropractic in Rome, Italy, where he has resided since he received his doctor degree from National Chiropractic College, Chicago, Illinois, in 1970.
