Henry Meyer was born in 1868 and died in 1923. He married Matilda Behnje who was born in 1873 and died in 1965, from Whitehouse. Henry bought and lived on a farm four miles southwest of Holgate. The farm was 80 acres in size.
They had eight children: Carl, 1892-1917; twins Ella and Stella born 1894; Alvin, 1896; Alma, 1898; Hilda, 1900; Lorenz, 1904; and John who died at birth in 1906.
The family belonged to St. John Lutheran Church, Holgate.
The farm was sold to Martin Alming of Chicago, Illinois.
Ella Meyer married Curtis Schatz and lived five miles southwest of Holgate on the Henry Schatz farm, then moved to Defiance in 1940. They had four children: Geraldine married Richard Tuttle, resides in Waterloo, Indiana, and has Richard, Barbara, and Bonnie; Valera married William Keller, resides in Defiance, Ohio, and has Lynn and Dennis (who died in 1973); Bryan married Evelyn and lives in Defiance; Alene married Otha Williams, resides in Defiance and has Mike, Ellajean, Cindy, and Neal.
Stella married John Grau, and lived on the John Grau farm four miles southwest of Holgate, moved to Defiance in 1947 and has two daughters, Valeda and Vera Mae.
Alvin married Dorothy Blanken, lived on the H. Meyer farm until 1938 and moved to Columbia City, Indiana, and had one son, Virgil. Dorothy died in 1954.
Alma married Arthur Engel and lived on the Jake Engel farm four miles southwest of Holgate and had three children: Margie, Robert, and Marilyn. They bought the John Grau farm where they now reside.
Hilda married Kenneth Hunter, moved to Tecumseh, Michigan, and had two children: Richard and Rhonda.
Lorenz married Meta Witschy and lived in Waterville, Ohio, and had two sons: Edwin and Melvin. Lorenz died in 1968.
