Linden H. McComb (1853-1937) was an architect and builder. He married Cora Skinner in 1879. They lived in Columbus Grove. They had three children: 1. Kenyon who lived in Columbus and owned a book store there; 2. Gertrude (1881-1934) married George Head. They lived in Henry County before moving to Wolfeboro, N.H. They were the parents of - (A.) William A. who was a 1st Lt. in the WWI Army, serving in Great Britain. He now works in the Navy Budget Division in Washington D.C. (B.) J. Elizabeth is a Social Service worker in the Veterans Hospital at Long Island, N.Y. (C.) Eugene also served in the WWI Army. He now lives in Wolfeboro, N.H. where he owns a restaurant. None of the three married; 3. Chester (1882-1965) served in WWI Army. After his discharge, he worked for the Napoleon Highway Department. He never married.
When Cora died Linden married Matilda Ficken (1860-1934). They moved to a farm near Liberty Center before coming to Napoleon.
Linden built a home on E. Maumee overlooking the Maumee River. The family lived here until the death of Matilda. The house is now owned by Mrs. Genevieve Murray.
Children of Linden and Matilda were: 1. Karl born in 1887. He was a graduate of Ohio State University. He was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during WWI. He served in France where he was killed in action. He is buried in Nancy, France; 2. Helen Leora (1889-1968) married Clell Bordner (1890-1975) in 1911. They first lived in Napoleon then moved to Toledo where he was an electrician for the Page Dairy Company until he retired. During the War, Clell served in the Coast Guard Reserve.
Their children are - (A.) Evelyn Bordner married Carl Pifer. They have a farm and a Greenhouse-Florist Shop near Metamora, Ohio. They have two boys, Allen and Edwin and sevengrandchildren. Edwin lives on a farm near his parents. Allen and his family live in Traverse City, Michigan. Allen is a Salesman for Burroughs Company. (B.) Ruth Alice Bordner married Charles Dence. She has a florist shop in Sylvania, Ohio. He is a CPA. They are parents of - Suzanne who is a Psychologist with United Counseling Service in Bennington, Utah. Gareth works for Social Security in Cleveland, Ohio. (C.) Karl Bordner married Helen Downer. He is a Cabinet Maker living in Ruskin, Florida. They have three children - Karlene, Billy and Rose. They also raised a niece of Helen's -Sharon, when her mother died; 3. Earl and Pearl, twins were born and died in 1893; 4. Edward D. (1895-1948) served in the 101 Infantry during WWI. He married Lucille Boulton in 1940. He was employed at the Napoleon Post Office at the time of his death; 5. James R. (1898-1941) was a Quarter Master in the Navy during WWI. After his discharge, he worked for Gerity Plating in Adrian, Michigan until his death. He never married.
Linden McComb was a learned man being an expert mathematician and speaking several languages. He was an active member of the Napoleon Presbyterian Church.
Charles R. McComb (1849-1932) a brother of Linden was a lawyer in Napoleon for many years. He served in Co. D. 189 Ohio Infantry.
The McCombs were patriotic citizens and served their country during the war. There are eleven names on the Honor Roll.
