James W. Leonard was born on July 4, 1886. He was the son of Alec Leonard and Elizabeth (Blakeman) Leonard. He married Anna Cutlip on Oct. 23, 1904. Anna was born on May 4, 1886. She was the daughter of David and Sarah (Bailey) Cutlip.
James Leonard worked for the railroad. He worked the Norfolk and Western, and in 1928 came from Wakefield, Ohio (Pike Co.) to Napoleon, Ohio. He worked for the DT&I Railroad Company. That same year, he moved to Maybee, Mich. Later he moved to Liberty Center, Ohio, then to Leipsic, Ohio and then finally to Malinta, Ohio in 1934, where he remained the rest of his life.
James and Anna Leonard had six children. David was born on Oct. 1, 1906. He married Ernestine Sherer on June 2, 1928. They had eight children: David Arthur, Marilyn, Paul, Charles, Jenny, Barbara, Wilma, and Terry.
Eric Leonard was born on Aug. 6, 1909 and died on Dec. 25, 1909. Velva was born on May 25, 1910. She married Wynne Hatcher. Their children are Wynne Jr., Ann, and Jack. Dorothy May was born on Sept. 10, 1920 and died on Oct. 1, 1920.
Thornton was born on Nov. 4, 1922. He married Marcile Aderman on Mar. 5, 1949. Their children are Wallace, Randal, and Linda.
(James) Donald was born Oct. 7, 1933. He married Mary Conn on Nov. 27, 1952. Their children are Terry, Scott, and Timothy.
Anna Leonard (wife of James) died on Nov. 6, 1948. James married Altha Fry in 1950. He retired from the railroad in 1951. James W. Leonard died Dec. 12, 1967. He and Anna are buried at Hoy Cemetery, Napoleon, Ohio.
