Frederick Langenhop came to Ohio, from Germany, in 1859 and bought the first part of what is now the Langenhop farm in Napoleon Township on July 25, 1859.
Frederick had four children: Henry, Catharina, Mary and Sophia. Henry was born in 1848 and acquired the farm in 1875. He married Marie Maassel on March 29, 1881. Marie had come from Germany with her parents the year before. Henry and Marie had three children: William, George and Amelia.
William Langenhop was born on March 11, 1882. George was born in 1895, and Amelia was born in 1905.
Henry Langenhop died in 1906. George Langenhop, his son, died in 1914 at the age of nineteen. Amelia married Ernest Dehnbostel. They farmed in Freedom Township and now live in Napoleon. They have four sons and a daughter.
Marie Langenhop lived to the age of eighty-four years and died September 19, 1948 after out living both of her sons.
William Langenhop married Anna Tietjens on April 7, 1914. Anna was born in Germany on May 2, 1884, and following the death of her mother and little brother in Germany, her father came to this country with his four small daughters. Anna was then six Years old. He and his daughters lived with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Tietjens of Napoleon. Soon after their arrival, the grandmother died. -
Anna Tietjens was raised in the Fred Schwake family, near Jewell, Ohio.
William and Anna farmed the family farm until poor health forced him to retire in 1929. William died on February 6, 1948. Anna lived to be eighty-four and died on October 16, 1968.
William and Anna had two children. Henry was born on November 16, 1917 and Luetta was born on February 4, 1923.
Luetta Langenhop married Martin Tietje on December 30, 1946. They farm near Deshler and have three sons and two daughters.
Henry Langenhop took over the farming in 1941. He was married to Alice King, of Bettsville, Ohio, on April 9, 1950. Alice was born to Claude and Bernice King. She graduated from Bettsville High School and attended Tiffin University.
Henry and Alice lived in the homestead until they built a new home in 1969 on part of the original acreage across the road from the old home. They have been active in both community and church activities. Henry has served as Napoleon Township Trustee since 1970. They have three children who are the fifth generation of Langenhops to live on the family farm.
Mary Lou Langenhop was born September 19, 1951. She graduated from Napoleon High School and Capital University. She married Charles Emery on October 11, 1975. They live in Gahanna, near Columbus, Ohio. Mary Lou is employed by the State of Ohio in the Department of Welfare.
William Langenhop was born April 23, 1953 and graduated from Napoleon High School and Case Western Reserve University as a chemical engineer. He is employed at Industrial Pump and Equipment as a sales representative. He married Sandra Senti, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on May 21, 1976. She graduated from Case Western Reserve University in May, 1978 in computer engineering. They live in Lakewood, near Cleveland, Ohio.
David Langenhop was born September 3, 1957. He graduated from Napoleon High School and attends Northwest Technical College studying mechanical engineering. It doesn't seem as though the Langenhops will have another farmer after Henry retires, but then, who knows?
