Orlo Jones

It has been almost 100 years (1883) since Charles and Alzada (Thompson) Boulton came from Cardington, Morrow County, to Henry County, Ohio. They purchased the farm in Richfield Township 1/4 mile south of Grelton where their grandson Orlo Jones has lived since (1929) having purchased the property from the Boulton heirs.

Mr. Boulton was a farmer and carpenter and built the house where his grandson lives. In the Boulton family were: Adazla who married Lemerton Jones; Fred whose wife was the former Maude Nichols; Lina married Dick Hollopeter, and after his death she married James Shidler; Ortho married Delpha Hecker, and after her death married Lura (Packard) Sheller; Myrtella who married Earl Landis.

Orlo owns the farm formerly owned by his great uncles Roy and Chester Thompson. Roy sold the farm and purchased the Grelton General Store. Chester was the father of Mrs. Jacob (Elmia) Creager. Orlo purchased the farm from the Creager heirs.

Orlo's parents Lemerton Jones and Adazla Boulton came from Carding-ton, Morrow County, Ohio. Their farm was two miles east of Grelton. Their son Fay now owns the farm. In the Jones family were Hudson, Harrison, (Michigan); Fay, (McClure, Ohio); Lola Noe, Kenova, (West Virginia). Orlo married the former Leannah Shuler (1925) of Grelton, Ohio, whose parents Emanuel and Tilitha (Growden) Shuler came from Bath Township, Allen County, Ohio. Ancestors came from Hanover, Germany, and Cornwall, England. In the Shuler family were Mabel Farrison, Glenn Shuler, Grace Cline, 011ie Howe, Mary Shuler.

In the Orlo and Leannah Jones family were one daughter Norma (deceased), and five sons: Arthur married Barbara Ernst (1952) of Delta, Ohio, and their children Deborah and Dennis are both in college and Dee Ann is an elementary student -(Arthur's occupation is shop maintenance and Barbara a bookkeeper); Marvin married Marlene Wilkins (1965) of Bluffton, Ohio, and their children are John and Dianne, both elementary students - (Dr. Marvin is a state veterinarian and Marlene a home economics supervisor); Elwood married Charlotte Travis (1959) of Delta, Ohio, and their children -Steve is in high school, Mark and Craig are in junior high school - (Elwood is farming and Charlotte a cook in the school cafeteria); Lynn married Kathleen Fahringer (1961) of Liberty Center, Ohio, and their children - Evan (deceased), Shawn and Kevin are elementary students and Noah an infant - (Lynn is teaching school and Kathleen is a dental hygienist); Rodney is a machinist. Arthur, Elwood, Rodney live near Grelton, Ohio, Marvin near Liberty Center, Ohio, and Lynn in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

Orlo farmed until retirement when his son Elwood rented the farms. His family are all active members of the United Methodist Church. He was a school board member for 30 years of the Grelton, Malinta-Grelton, and Henry County School Board. He served twenty-five years as Justice of Peace of Richfield Township. Ten year advisor of the Grelton Prize Livestock 4-H Club of which his son Elwood has been an advisor for 18 years. He served the Grelton Farmers Grain and Seed Elevator Board for 25 years.

Orlo and Leannah were both graduates of Grelton High School. Their sons were all graduates of MalintaGrelton High School. Dr. Marvin and Lynn are graduates of Ohio State University.
