John B. Jackman (1825-1906) immigrated to this country with his parents in 1832, living with them in the Tiffin area until 1846, when he moved to Henry County settling in the New Bavaria area. In 1848 he married Mary Lahr and to this union were born sons Peter and Theodore, who both died in early childhood. Then were born sons Nicholas, James, John, Joseph W., Frank, William, Michael, and daughters Mary, Sarah, and Josephine. He was a veteran of the Civil War, serving three years with the Ohio 68th Infantry from 1861 to 1864. The only children of this family who remained in Henry County for any length of time were Nicholas, James, Michael, Sarah, and Josephine. The others moved to Fostoria, Lima, and Findlay areas.
Sarah Jackman married Edward Hashberger and lived and farmed in the Hamler area all their lives. Their children were Coy Hashberger, Wilbur Hashberger, and Etha Hashberger Smith.
Josephine Jackman married Iry Crampton and lived in Hamler for several years operating a restaurant, later moved to Toledo, Ohio. They had three daughters, Irene, Florence, and Helen.

Michael Jackman lived in Hamler all his life and operated an insurance agency. He never passed the bar exam but was well versed in many things and was adviser to many local people in their dealings.
Nicholas Jackman married Catherine Punches and to them were born daughters Emma Jackman Swinehart, Bertha Jackman Coken, and sons Charles, Newton, Peter, Fred, and Earl. He lived in Hamler for several years and then moved to Holgate where he operated an elevator, and Grist & Feed Mill. Charles Jackman was the only one of these children who made Henry County his home. He married Edith Andrew, and to them were born son Verlin and daughter Beryl. They lived in Holgate and Florida area. Verlin Jackman married Dorothy Schlueter and to them were born two daughters, Ann Jackman Werling, and Karen Jackman Drewes. Beryl Jackman married Al Larsen.
James Jackman married Mary Daub and lived and farmed in the Hamler and New Bavaria area all his life. To them were born Joseph A. Jackman, Andrew Jackman, Mona Jackman, Lulu Jackman. His wife died and he later married Frances Henderson and to them were born Eva Jackman Vietch, Bertha Jackman Dillon, and Thelma Jackman Cullen. Joseph A. Jackman was the only one of these children who made Henry County his lifetime home.
Joseph A. Jackman married Catherine Guilliom and to them were born Mary Jackman, Walter Jackman, Agatha Jackman, and Margaret Jackman. In the early 1900's he taught school in local country schools and later in the Hamler High School. He farmed in the Hamler area until 1915 and then moved to Hamler and formed partnership with Wm. Badenhop and J. W. Ritz operating The Hamler Hardware. He retired from this business in 1959.
Mary Jackman married Alphonse Westrick and has lived in Toledo since 1929.
Agatha Jackman married Charles Zierolf and lives R 1 Hamler on a farm.
Margaret Jackman lives in Cleveland, Ohio, where she is principal of an elementary school.
Walter Jackman married JosephineZachrich and has lived in Hamler all his life. To this union were born Kenneth Jackman, Catherine Jackman Steffan, Richard Jackman, and Barbara Jackman Lake. In 1935 Walter Jackman joined his father as partner in The Hamler Hardware and in 1959 assumed full ownership of this business, which at this writing has been partially or fully operated in the family for sixty years.
Richard Jackman has moved to Toledo, Ohio, where he is an instructor in science at Waite High School.
Kenneth Jackman married Sandra McDougle and to them have been born Sharon Jackman, John Jackman, and Robert Jackman. Kenneth Jackman has joined his father in The Hamler Hardware and is now manager of the operation of this business.
