The history of the Imbrock family began on December 26, 1918 with the marriage of Ferdinand and Luella Buchenberg Imbrock, who were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Pastor Wurthmann.
Luella was born to Dietrich and Bertha Hahn Buchenberg on December 26, 1895. She was the fourth child in a family of ten children. The first five children were born to Dietrich Buchenberg, who passed away in 1922. After his death, Bertha married Frederick Buchholz who was the father of five additional children.
Ferdinand was the eleventh child in a family of twelve children. His parents were Conrad and Louise Hoffmeister Imbrock who came from Hanover, Germany on October 15, 1886. Ferdinand was born nine years later on June 20, 1895.
After Ferd and Ella were married, they moved in with Ferd's parents west of Deshler, Ohio. While living there, they were blessed with three children. Bertha Louise was born on March 19, 1920. Alvin William was born on November 28, 1921. Arnold Ferdinand was born on September 30, 1923. The Ferdinand Imbrock family lived there until February, 1925, when they moved to Rhodes, Michigan.
Ferd had worked in Rhodes before he married Ella and he had purchased a forty acre farm there. After moving the family to Rhodes by train, they bought an additional one hundred and twenty acres with buildings. Ferd and the family lived there until October, 1925. Upon moving back to Ohio, they lived south of Liberty Center with the Albert Freytag family for a short period of time and eventually moved into their own home. During their two year stay at Liberty Center, another daughter was born. Paula Marie was born on November 19, 1927, and before she was two months old the family moved to what is now considered the homeplace. It is located one mile north of Hamler on the west side of State Route 109. Ferd and Ella rented the farm for five years before buying it in 1933. On December 26, 1931, on Ella and Ferd's anniversary, and on Ella's birthday, Lawrence Frederick was born. The family was now complete.
Bertha Imbrock married Donald Fischer on August 10, 1940. They made their home north of Waterville, Ohio, where Don farmed. Judith Eloise, their first child, was born on February 5, 1942. Four years later the Fisher's were blessed with twins. Donald James and Bonita Jean were born on February 8, 1946. Donald continued farming until he passed away in April, 1963. Bertha and the children continued to live on the home place in the years that followed.
Judy became the wife of Douglas Hoffman on January 25, 1964. They live near McClure and have three children. Deborah Louise was born on
April 30, 1966. Joan Elizabeth was born on September 12, 1969. Christopher Douglas was born on July 6, 1973. Judy is a registered nurse at Wauseon Hospital and Doug is employed by the Anthony Wayne High School as an industrial arts teacher.
Donnie married Beverly Rupp on February 4, 1967. At this time Bertha and Bonnie moved into a house in Waterville and Donnie and Bev moved onto the homeplace where he continued to farm and manage Custom Agri Systems, Inc. Donnie and Bev have three children. They are Martin Eugene, born April 7, 1971; Melinda Anne, born December 4, 1973; and Melanie Jeanne, born October 15, 1975.
Bonnie married Steven Hoffman on August 26, 1967. Their children are Stephanie Dyan, born March 4, 1973, and Benjamin Jay born January 28, 1976. Bonnie is employed at Fallen Timbers Medical Clinic as a registered nurse and Steve is in the construction business. They live in their own home near Delta, Ohio.
Shortly after the United States entered World War II in 1942, Alvin entered the military and served three years in the European Theater. In 1945, Arnie began service in the army for two years. After returning home in 1945, Alvin returned to farming.
On March 3, 1946, Alvin married Wilma Bostelman. They moved southeast of Hamler, Ohio, where Alvin farmed. Their three daughters are Lois Ann, born March 27, 1949; Elaine Carol, born June 25, 1950; and Julie Lynn, born on October 22, 1961.
Lois married Richard VonDeylen on October 23, 1971. They lived in Hamler for two years while Lois was a beautician in Deshler and Richard worked at Gilson Screen in Malinta, where he is still employed. In 1973, Lois and Richard moved to her parent's farm. Her parents moved into their new home in Hamler where they still reside. Lois and Richard have three children, Michele Leigh, born June 27, 1973; Amy Kay, born September 18, 1975, and Susan Ann, born August 8, 1977.
Elaine, second daughter of Alvin and Wilma, is presently living in Columbus, Ohio, where she is a registered nurse at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. Julie is a sophomore at Patrick Henry High School.<\p>
Paula, second daughter in the Ferdinand Imbrock family, married Raymond Cordes on September 7, 1947. They moved west of Napoleon where Ray continues to farm. Their three children are William Michael, born November 29, 1948; Rebecca Sue, born June 18, 1952; and Daniel Raymond, born October 12, 1955. Bill lives and farms near Ridgeville. Becky lives in Ridgeville and is a secretary for Toledo Edison in Wauseon, Ohio. Dan is a truck driver and lives in Napoleon.
After Arnie returned from the war, he entered the seminary. In 1953, he was ordained at his home church, St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Hamler, Ohio. He married Helen Maassel on December 26, 1947. Arnie has served at various churches including parishes at Gorden, Nebraska; Arlington, Badger, Moe Parish, Canton, Romsdale, and Trinity, all in South Dakota; and is now serving a congregation in LeMars, Iowa.
Arnie and Helen are the parents of six children. James David was born on July 8, 1949. Timothy Paul was born on February 23, 1951. Stephen Arnold was born on November 12, 1953. Daniel Conrad was born on December 6, 1954. Ruth Mary was born on October 9, 1957. Rachel Helen was born on April 9, 1960.
Jim married Colleen McCoid on May 26, 1973. They are living in Omaha, Nebraska, where Jim is a medical doctor specializing in surgery.
Tim is a chef in Estes Park, Colorado. Stephen is working for Honeywell Corporation in Twin Cities. Dan is working on a farm near Canton, South Dakota. Ruth is a junior at Augustana College, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, majoring in social work. Rachel is a senior at LeMars Community High School and will join Ruth at Augustana in the fall.
Larry entered the Air Force in 1951 and served four years during the Korean Conflict, after which he returned home. On October 10, 1956, Larry married Geraldine Guelde. They moved to a farm east of Hamler that they rented. While living there, Kelly Ann was born on May 23, 1959, and William Lawrence was born on February 15, 1962. In 1974, Larry and his family moved into their new home east of Hamler, where Larry continues to farm. Kelly is attending Capital University where she is majoring in nursing. Bill is a sophomore at Patrick Henry High School and plans to farm after graduation from high school.
Ferd retired from farming in 1961 and he and Ella moved to Englewood, Florida, where they made their home for the next nine years. While in Englewood they raised a great variety of citrus fruits and flowers.
In 1970 Ferd and Ella returned to Hamler to live. After years of illness, Ferdinand Imbrock passed away on February 23, 1976. Ella continued to live on the home place. She has the entire Imbrock family home for Christmas dinner each year. The family gets together at least four times a year.
