Rensselaer Hudson was born in Napoleon in 1818. He was a jeweler by trade. He was County Recorder and Auditor during the 1850's and 1860's, and was also a Justice of the Peace for Henry County.
He married Mary Pardee. Their grand daughter, Miss Kathleen Stevens, lives in Brecksville, Ohio, in 1978.
He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity. As a jeweler, he also took Daguerrotypes.
He married twice. Dates of his marriage are now known, but his wives were Susan Kelly and Mary Pardee.
Renssaelaer Hudson died in 1899.
Kathleen Stevens has a Friendship Quilt made by her mother, Harriet Hudson Stevens, which consists of blocks of material signed by friends and outlined with a chain stitch. One block is inscribed "1893". All the names are of people who lived in Napoleon during the period of about 1875-1893. The quilt is in fairly good condition and all the names are readable.
Harriet Hudson Stevens was a teacher in the Napoleon school about 1890-1895.
Miss Stevens also has the family Bible from 1857 listing the births, deaths, and marriages of all of Rensselaer Hudson's family.
