Charles Randall Barlow (1869-1942) was born in Erie County, Ohio, and received his name from his two grandfathers.
Randall Barlow (1809-1842) was born in Shropshire, England and married Catharine Reed Barlow (18101875), also of England. Their oldest son, Thomas Barlow (1830-1905) was born in England and when about two years old, sailed to America with his parents. The trip took six weeks and they landed in New York. After resting awhile, they moved to Ohio. Four more children were born in Ohio.
Thomas made the trip to California during the Gold Rush days. He later married Martha Carrick, of Iowa. She died in 1864, and then Thomas served in the Civil War. He received his honorable discharge in July, 1865.
