William Horr was born in Cornwall, England, the son of John and Mary Horr, on September 7, 1835.
In 1852, William immigrated to Upper Canada, stayed a short time and then crossed into the United States and located at Lorain County, Ohio.
When the Civil War started, William enlisted in 1861 and served two years in the 2nd Ohio Volunteer Cavalry.
He returned to Lorain County in 1863 and married Sarah Fishburn on August 10, 1864. Sarah was born on May 14, 1845 to Paul and Jane Fish- burn who came to Lorain County in 1847 from England. In 1867, William and Sarah located in Adams Township, Defiance County, Ohio.
He was quoted as saying that his name was Orr but he had an English accent and said the word with the preceding sound of H and the officials wrote his name as Horr when he arrived in the United States. No proof of this has been found but many English did pronounce O with the preceding sound of H.
William and Sarah Horr had seven children: Jennie, died as an infant; Mildred, married James Turney; Burt, married Clara Tittle; William, married Rosa Seaman; George, married Daisy Williams; Everett; and Lloyd.
Sarah Fishburn Horr's sister, Jane Fishburn Burke, also came to Henry County. She was horn in Yorkshire, England on August 28, 1841 and came with her parents to Lorain County. Jane was married in Liberty Township, Henry County, on November 11, 1860, to James Burke. They lived in Liberty Township until 1901, when they moved to Napoleon. Jane and James Burke had no issue. A sister to Sarah and Jane, Anna Fishburn Trimble, lived in Wauseon, Ohio.
William and Rosa Seaman Horr had one son, Glen. Glen married Alice Morehead, of Weston, Ohio, a school teacher, on October 14, 1920.
Glen and Alice Horr had all daughters: Evelyn, Lola, Rosemary and Connie Horr.
