Bargman Family

Harmon Bargman was born in Germany in 1853 and died in Ridgeville Township in 1926. He married Louise Dannenberg in May, 1882. Louise was born on December 9, 1859 and died on March 30, 1923.
Harmon and Louise purchased the Emery M. Chapman farm in Ridgeville Township in June, 1882, shortly after their marriage. In November, 1894, they put a brick foundation under the house, and in April, 1896, built the barn from timber cut off the farm and sawed with a portable sawmill.
Their son, William Bargman, was born in 1883 and died in 1940 in the farm home in Ridgeville Township. William never married.
Martin E. Bargman was born on October 14, 1894, and died on February 1, 1959. His wife, Helene C., was born on July 13, 1897.
Henry Bargman was born in 1892 and died in 1966. His first wife was Laura S. Colby, born in 1889 and died in 1950, daughter of John Colby, 1861to 1941, and Ann Colby born in 1865, died in 1931. The Colby family lived in Ridgeville Corners. Henry and Laura Bargman had no children. Henry, after Laura's death, married Mrs. Meyer, a widow who had a daughter Minnie.
Rudolph Bargman married Ola Motter and their family is included in the Motter history in this book.
Minnie Bargman married Henry Wittenberg and had five daughters. Minnie was born on June 22, 1897 and lives with her husband in Napoleon, Ohio.
The Bargman Brothers bought the Sechrist Grocery store in Ridgeville Corners and had a combination grocery and saloon in the store. In 1920, the grocery merchandise included automobile tires and spare auto parts. Henry Bargman was proprietor of the store until his death. The telephone office was in the upper story of the building for some years, and for many years the town doctor had his office in the front part of the upper story. In April, 1968, L.D. Nofziger bought the building and tore the old landmark building down. The site is now a vacant lot.
The Bargman home in Ridgeville was sold after Henry's death. The Bargman farm in Section 36, Ridgeville Township is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wittenberg and is now owned by them in 1978.
