Agler Family

George W. Agler, or Bill, was born on October 6, 1885, the fourth child of Fred and Mary Ann Lohse Agler. In September, 1904, he married Helen D. Elling who was born on June 21, 1888, a daughter of Henry and Augusta Schwiebert Elling. They lived on a farm in the Okolona area where they farmed about twenty years. They moved to the Leonhart place near Stanley and continued farming. Bill quit farming and worked for the State of Ohio for approximately twenty years until he retired. He also worked for the Napoleon Creamery Company for several years.

George and Helen were the parents of three boys and three girls. Lavina was born on December 20, 1905. Pearl was born on March 17, 1907. Lester was born on December 8, 1910. Viola was born on November 21, 1912. Robert was born on July 10, 1914. Larry was born on June 21, 1929.

Lavina Agler married Clarence Gessner on February 3, 1932. Their children were Cornie Lu who married Frank Crossland, and Gary who married Linda Brink. Lavina's step-sons were Warren Gessner who married Kathleen Farison, and Robert Gessner who married Marie Flory. Clarence was a farmer all his life and Lavina worked at the Chief Super Market until her retirement.

Pearl married Albert Huber on March 26, 1932. Their one daughter, Shirley married Marvin Gebers. Al and Pearl are farmers and live on the Huber farm in the Holgate area.

Lester married Margerite Andrews on June 25, 1932. Their children were James who married Carolyn Luffs on February 28, 1958, and Thomas who married Carol Desgrange on December 12, 1970. Lester and Margerite were farmers and lived most of their lives in the Florida area.

Viola married Elza Clymer and they lived most of their life in Ridgeville Corners where Elza was a veterinarian. Their children were John who married Pat Hoffman and Tony who married Carol Whitman. Viola was a beautician and they lived and worked in the Ridgeville Corners area.

Robert married Marie Rosebrock and they lived in Defiance, Ohio. They were the parents of Brenda who married Howard Schultz, Jr., and Jean who is a school teacher. Robert worked in several factories and retired from General Motors. Marie was a beautician until her retirement.

Larry married Arlene Bortz on June 20, 1954. They were the parents of Marsha, Linda who married David Arreguin on September 25, 1976, Annette and Susan. Larry and Arlene are farmers in the Holgate area.

Members of the Agler family that are deceased are: Helen Agler died October 31, 1959. George Agler died on June 3, 1974. Viola Clymer died in June, 1963 and Elza Clymer died in June, 1973. Vicki Gessner Singer and Christopher John Singer died on December 12, 1977.
