John Hartman was born on December 3, 1790, in Maryland. He was a son of Samuel and Mary Vinton Hartman.
John married Anna Mariah Barnes on March 7, 1816. She was born on December 18, 1794, in Maryland. John and Anna were early settlers in Henry County, Ohio, coming in 1859.
John died on August 18, 1869/70, at Napoleon, and Anna died on September 23, 1868/69, and both are buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Napoleon, Ohio.
John and Anna Hartman had twelve children. The names of those known are Catherine, John, Ellen, Daniel, Mary Haynthia, Margaret Ann, Adam, Joseph C., and Susan Amanda.
Catherine was born on April 3, 1815, in Maryland, and married a man whose last name was Eninger. She died on August 22, 1900, and is buried in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Joseph C. was born on March 3, between Adam and Susan Amanda who was born on September 5, 1838. Joseph married Sarah Wilson on September 27, 1859.
