Mr. and Mrs. Earl Baker and son Richard came to Henry County in 1934 to Grelton, Ohio, where he was a blacksmith for one year, and from there the family moved to McClure, Ohio, in 1935 to blacksmith. We lived at the south end of town in Van Saggen's house. When the house was sold, we did not know where we would live because there were no empty houses.
Earl and Beulah Baker
Home of Earl Baker, McClure, Ohio.
Earl bought a lot from Mrs. George Nulton. He only had $100.00 to start a house. Earl went to Ballmer's lumber yard. Mr. Ballmer told him to go put the foundation in and by the time the foundation was ready the lumber would be on the ground. We moved in the last of October, 1939. We lived the first winter without any windows in and as Earl had money we put a window in the house. We also had two deaths in the house before it was finished. Mrs. Baker saved the State of Ohio Sales Tax to help.
