Lyman R. Hall was born July 1, 1914, one and one half miles north of Malinta, Ohio, Harrison Township, in the same house that his father and later his older son was born. His parents were Arkie A. and Nellie J. (Blythe) Hall. His grandfather was Lyman S. Hall, Sr. and great-grandfather was Andrew Hall whose father, David Hall, was a native of Pennsylvania, whose parents came from Germany.

The subject's grandmother was Emma (Hoy) Hall whose parents were Jacob and Sarah (Shaffstall) Hoy.
On February 23, 1934, he was united in marriage to Verena G. (Ward) and to this union were born four children: Kenneth D., a Napoleon barber and shoe repairman, married Jacquline J. Mullett on April 11, 1954, and to this union were born four children: Douglas D., Pamela K., Daniel D., and Wendell L.; Carl R., the second son, is employed at Automatic Feeds Co. and is also a self-employed tree trimmer. He married Rosalie J. Woodward on January 1, 1959, and to this union were born two children: David R. and Annette M.; Wendell A. the third son died at the age of 21 as a result of an industrial accident; Sally Ann a beautician was united in marriage to Gary L. Yeager of Defiance, Ohio, on February 26, 1961, and to this union were born three children: Terry L., Gregory A., and Robert R.
