Harold Hahn was born on Mar. 24, 1899, on a farm north of Napoleon, Ohio. He was the son of Henry Hahn (Feb. 14, 1869-Aug. 25, 1944) and Anna Quell (May 12, 1874-Dec. 31, 1934). They were married on Aug. 27, 1895. Their children were Edna (1896) who married Ernest Meyer. Harold (1899) married Clara Fintel. Franklin (1901) married Faye Calahan. Carlton ('1904) married Helen Reimund and later married Edna Lussman. Ruth (1910) married Donald Bernath.
Herman Hahn (Nov. 6, 1831-April 4, 1912) and Margaret Mahnke (Mar. 13, 1831-Jan. 27, 1916) were the grandparents of Harold Hahn. Their children were Emma, Anna, Mary, Lissie, Henry, and Herman. Herman and Margaret are buried at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Co. Rd. 17&Q-1, Napoleon, Ohio.
Christopher Quell and Sophie Rose- brook were the maternal grandparents of Harold Hahn. Their children were Sophie, Emma, and Anna.
Harold Hahn grew up around Napoleon, Ohio. His father Henry worked in furniture store; was also a carpenter; and was also a farmer. He lived on Maple St., and on 334 Filmore, and 1040 N. Perry in Napoleon, Ohio. In 1910 Henry moved to a farm west of Napoleon on Road P-I. He farmed here. Henry and Anna Hahn are buried at Forest Hill, Cemetery, Napoleon, Ohio.
Harold Hahn went through eight grades of school. He went to work for William Haase, west of Napoleon, and also worked for Henry Schuette. In 1920, Harold started working on a farm near Hamler, Ohio for Carl Schwiebert. During the winters of 1920 and 1921 he worked on the DT&I railroad. Later he sold Heberling Products for the Heberling Medicine and Extract Co. in Wood Co. That winter (1921-1922) he got pleurisy pneumonia.
On July 12, 1923 Harold married Clara Fintel. She was born June 25, 1903 (daughter of William and Mary (Binger) Fintel). Harold and Clara moved to Colorado because Harold needed a drier climate with his lung trouble. Harold worked as a ranch hand, landscape gardener, for a sign painter, and for the post office. In 1924, they moved to Denver and Harold attended barber school.
In 1925 Harold and Clara returned to Ohio and moved to a house in Bart- low Twp. Later they moved to Hamler on First St., and then purchased a small house on Randolph St. for $950.00.
Harold worked for the B&O railroad, then for the DT&I in Hamler, in Leipsic, and in Malinta. He worked for August Junge when he was in the poultry and egg business, and was also in business with August when they operated a muskrat breeding farm. Harold sold insurance for awhile. He operated a grocery store with Henry Dachenhaus. He operated a barber shop in Hamler. He was a janitor in the Hamler School. He was elected clerk for the village council and the Board of Public Affairs beginning in 1936 for six years. In 1941, he was supervisor and inspector while the Water Works Systems was installed. He was superintendent for the Water Works Systems for nine years beginning in 1942.
Harold worked for Ted Arps, drilling and plumbing and later he was in the plumbing and heating business for himself. In 1951, Harold was employed by the Central Foundry Division of General Motors in Defiance, Ohio. He work was maintaining of molding machines in the foundry. In 1953, Harold and Clara built their home on Hubbard St. in Hamler, Ohio. Harold installed all the plumbing and heating.
In -1963, Harold retired from General Motors. In 1964, he was elected as a member of the Board of Public Affairs for eight years. He was also employed as a sexton by the Marion Twp. Trustees for six years, and layed out a section of the cemetery for small childrens' graves.
Since retirement, Harold has had many hobbies. He does woodworking, trimming evergreen, and macrame.
Clara, besides being a wife and mother, did housework for other people, worked at Westinghouse Electric in Leipsic, and Boss Sewing Factory in Napoleon, and Hamler Woodworking, and Koppenhofer's in Deshler, and at Deshler Peoducts. She also worked for Campbell Soup Co. for fifteen years during the tomato season.
Harold and Clara Hahn had four children. Waldo was born on Sept. 20, 1925. He married Alvina Weddelman on June 13, 1948. (Alvina was born Nov. 27, 1927). Their children are Lisa and Michael.
A child died in infancy. He was born on Sept. 29, 1927 and died on Oct. 2, 1927.
Wanda Lou was born on Sept. 21, 1928. She married Harold Badenhop on Oct. 29, 1949. (Harold was born June 3, 1923), Their children are Bruce, Stan, Jenny, and Susan.
Helen was born on Aug. 20, 1932. She married Victor Petersen on Dec. 2, 1951. (Victor was born on May 8, 1932). Their children are Patricia, Mark, Peggy, Robin, Jon, and Andrew.
Harold and Clara Hahn are members of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Hamler, Ohio.
