Born in 1844, in Prussia, Herman Groschner came to the Florida area of Henry County, Ohio in 1853.
In 1865, he entered the employment of Henry Kahlo Hardware store in Napoleon, Ohio. His years of employment covered the period of time that the name of the store changed to Imber and Gillis, then Gillis and Groschner, to Groschner and Herrers, to Groschner and Redderson and in 1887, Herman purchased the store.
In 1879, he was elected state representative and served four years. In 1885, he was elected to a two year term as state senator.
Herman Groschner married Caroline Darrah in 1867. They had seven children.
